wat shld i go for.....dell inspiron n6400 wid centrino duo 2.0ghz, 1gb ram,120gb hdd or hp amd turion 64*2 mob tech 1.6ghz, 1gbddr2 and 80gb hdd...i hav heard that amd heats up faster while running hi tech multi media apps....and other problems of completely going of....!

The Centrino package will be faster. Is this a Core 2 Duo T7200, or a Core Duo T2500. If it is the latter, then it lacks 64-bit and is about 10% slower than the T7200, in processer dependant tasks, such as encoding, and video editing. 64-Bit will help if you want to upgrade to Vista, but 64-bit programs will take while to fully come out. Both the T2500 and T7200 are faster than the 1.6 GHz Turion X2. But if all you are doing is surfing the Internet and word processing, then there will be little difference, if any.

As for heayting up I have heard more stories of Core dDuos running hot than any other chip since the P4, but in this case the Core Duo package does look better.
