Component questions for my upcoming Clevo 570u

Question:
Component questions for my upcoming Clevo 570u
I'm going to be getting a new 570u 17" in the coming days but I haven't yet decided on one key point.
1) Whether to go with WSXGA+ or WUXGA+ . Does anyone have any experience with both of these resolutions on a 17" screen? While I want the resolution to get the most from my games, I realize that I will be reading and writing most of the time on the screen. Has anyone had problems with the font being too small on WUXGA+ screens? Does it really matter which one I choose?
If this is listed elsewhere in this forum -- and it most certainly is -- I apologize for repeating.
thanks

It is such a personal preference you should check some screens if you can.

I have a WUXGA screen in a Clevo. True that the font and icons are small initially, but you have so much space to work with for documents, windows, etc. to work with. I will never go back. :D
The best way for someone that feels that its too small is simple,
- go into the Windows Display Properties,
- under Appearance tab,
- choose the Font Size to be Large rather than normal.
Thats it. Now worries for it being too small anymore. :)
As for gaming, I have a 7800 GTX and run all new games at native 1920x1200 resolution with settings on High, no problems or performance issues.
Another reason why the WUXGA is good is because its 1080p ready... meaning that it its going to become the True High Definition standard for next-gen movies (Blue-Ray or HD-DVD)... as well as next-gen game consoles (such as the PS3). So when a standardized Blue-Ray/HD-DVD drive is available for notebooks, you can just get the drive and be ready to see the high quality goodness.
Its just piece of mind to future proof. When I built my Clevo back in March 2006, I made the decision for the WUXGA screen. I am glad to have done it, its beautiful.

I must say that a game at 1920x1200 is simply beautiful. I used to have a 17" WUXGA system and games were awesome on it.
It is true that fonts and icons will be relatively small--but think of it this way: you can always adjust your desktop's resolution and make fonts (in most, not all applications) larger, but you can never add more pixels to your screen.
But it is a personal choice, and if possible, you may want to see it in person.

OK, thanks for all that info. You guys collectively rule.
But before I let you go: is there any point in spending the extra $20 for either the Kingston or Corsair RAM, or is the "Major Brand" option good enough?
If it matters, I am getting 2GB.
Thanks again.

Thanks again. It really does not matter, since you wont even see the differences in performance or stability between them. The main reason why people might opt for the "brand name" memory... is for "piece of mind" :)
