HP with AMD processor question

Question:
HP with AMD processor question
Trying to choose which processor would be best for me. I do a lot of multi-tasking and thought the AMD Turion would be good but am unsure WHICH version I would need. To make matters more confusing I found this on the HP site in the description menu for all the Turions
"This system requires a separately purchased 64-bit operating system and 64-bit software products to take advantage of the 64-bit processing capabilities of this AMD 64 processor."
I have to buy something else now too?
Any help is appreciated in clearing this up. I've send 3 emails to HP and heard nothing back.

Re: HP with AMD processor question
only buy a 64 bit version of windows xp if you want driver problems, what comes with the computer 32 bit xp will work but fine, don't worry at all get a 64 bit version of vista.

Re: HP with AMD processor question
so would you imagine an AMD Turion(TM) 64 Mobile MK-36 (2.0 GHz/512KB) would give me enough of what I need for basic multi-tasking and (rare occassion) video editing?
Thanks. I'm so confused!

Re: HP with AMD processor question
Yes, this processor will absolutely fly. It *is* a 64 bit processor, but it can also run in 32 bit mode (standard windows). If you want to take advantage of the fact that this processor is 64 bit you will need the 64 bit version of windows.
So...is it worth it? Not really, no. You might get a small performance increase, but it's barely noticeable. Also, you may have trouble getting drivers although this is getting better nowadays. Your L2 cache is going to play a bigger role in a performance boost than the fact that it is 64-bit.
My advice is to just go with standard windows for now. By getting a 64-bit cpu you are future proofing your computer.
