Answer:
Re: HP Laptop Decision Help
In general, the Core Duo processors outperform the Turion X2 processors, but for the tasks you mention, either will do.
The HP dv2000 series is a good choice. You can also check out the similar Compaq v3000 series.

Thanks for the reply.. i heard the turion 64 x2 was better because it was 64 bit also i will be multitasking on internet while listening to music whether it be music or radio so will the core duo be able to handle this without slowing down because i was reading and it said that the amd was better because it was 64 bit (??) sorry if im talking trash i have no idea bout computers just want to clear this up cos my pc has to last for the years im at uni :)

Re: HP Laptop Decision Help
64 bit will make no difference on regular windows xp. It's only when you start playing with things like 64 bit vista that 64 bit will make any difference. As stated the Core Duo is a more powerful cpu than the Turion X2 generally speaking.

bloody heck! i am in the same boat over the 2104 as well - and the vista thing is an issue as were all gonna be on vista within a few months - so 64 bit is imperative i would say.

No, 64-bit doesn't mean much for notebook performance. The biggest reason to use 64-bit is if you want to use more than 4 GB of RAM (which notebooks can't anyways).

Quite a few notebooks these days can support 4Gb ram. Mine can and it's certainly not high-end.
