Hi, Just looking for some real input....

Question:
Hi, Just looking for some real input....
Hi all....
I haven't bought a computer since 2001 and could use some guidance as I am needing to be more mobile. I have been told that I should forget Intel and get a Turion cuz if it ain't 64-bit I'm gonna get screwed... I think that advisor id full of doody. Vista is close but it hasn't gotten anywhere and will not take over right-away, if at all.
I'd like a stylish design and strong build and for some reason the HP 6000/2000 seems to fit the bill. I'm sure I'll prolly go with the 6000 due to the GO7400 GPU option. I want Bluetooth built-in and a good overall feel. Gaming is not the main goal but I like havin the option...:D

I personaly think that the HP dv6000t - 15.4'' is a nice option with good quality and design, it also has Core 2 Duo which is a 64-bit and the best CPU in the world for the time being.
Answer:
Re: Hi, Just looking for some real input....
Core Cuo is 32bit
Core 2 duo is 64bit. so AMD can't compare with Core 2 duo, but is cheaper and is not that much weaker (ony slightl).

I'm afraid I'm not sure what laptop to recommend that is under a grand that can really play Oblivion. You need a good video card for that, and I dunno if you can find a new laptop with a good enough dedicated card to really play it.
And no, you wouldn't be screwed if you got a 32 bit cpu. It will still be many years before 64 bit software starts to dominate. Vista will be in both 32 and 64 bit formats, just like XP. Plus, both intel and amd support 64 bit (if you get intels core 2 duo).
I would personally recommend intel over AMD for a laptop.

Yea Wave, that's what i thought the comparison of Intel/AMD was too. Amd was slightly slower with more power consumption.
Box store geeks are worthless!!! Tried telling me I was idiot if i didn't buy AMD....MORON. I guess they talik to people all day who have no idea what is really in a computer.. And a NVIDIA 6150 will run new games.... right...
Thx Dreamer. My one vice is if I can wait a few months and then personally upgrade the RAM to about 2GB. And I should be able to hit my target $$.

Re: Hi, Just looking for some real input....
From the charts and info I think the 7400 would run Oblivion at a Medium-Low setting, which I can live with. I still haven't finished Morrowind.
