Compal HGL30 vs. Asus A8Js
A Compal HGL30 from AGear Notebooks configured to almost the same specs as an Asus A8Js costs around $400 less. Only difference: the Compal has a Go7600 256mb, whereas the Asus has a go7700 512mb. So why the 400$ disparity?

the Asus A8Js also comes with a nVidia 7700Go vs HGL30's 7600Go. not that there is a huge difference in the performance ;)

Better build quality in Asus laptops, and better looking is pretty much it, maybe a bit of a brand name thing.

no, as i mentioned, AGear allows you to customize it to the same specs, except for the video card.
so the HGL actually has a better battery... so in the end, we're paying over 400$ just for looks and brand...

I feel more confident in the asus brand than the compal brand.
You cant get a hgl 30 with the same specs for $1200. That is false. It would be at least $1400.
what youre doing ok, is youre looking at a US site in us dollars and comparing it to a canadian site in canadian dollars.
The price difference for that is around $200 us, or maybe thats $250 canadian

ok heres your confusion then
ok the asus a8js is an ensemble
it costs 1839 canadian

you cannot alter it. it comes boxed, with those stats.
If you alter it you get ripped off because they literally open the box and keep the cpu and hd that are in it.
dont spend more that 1839 on it. If you want to compare it to your hgl at 1800 go ahead, see what the hgl has and what the a8js has
So you cant customize it. it comes like that. customize it later down the road.
do not spend $250 to make it go from 2.0 ghz to 2.16 ghz ok because then youre in serious trouble.
If you make an hgl-30, which is customizable, to the same stats as an a8js, it will come to much closer.
