Question:
Anyone with a 17" Acer comment on display quality?
I'm after a cheap 17" notebook and Acer seem to be the only people that make them below £650.Mostly for internet & DVDs & some work.
Are Turion 64/X2 decent processors?
PS:When looking at 15.4" laptops this is what I almost bought: https://uk.insight.com/apps/productp..._id=TOPSATA101

Re: Anyone with a 17" Acer comment on display quality?
I don't mind carrying a large 17" notebook around with me, however, I don't need to carry it much distance, just around the house. However, carrying a 17" notebook further distances is quite a hastle. I would consider making sure a 17" one is for you. I'm not to sure on Acer 17" models, but yes, they are quite good value. I have linked an Asus that you may like below:

It is a 15.4" notebook, but it has quote good features for the price.

I agree with Zero. 17" notebooks are more portable than Desktops but really not ideal for being truely mobile.
That said, Acer have a good range of 17" notebooks starting at much lower prices than other manufacturers. I think the cheapest is the 7000 series? Good for OS based tasks but not much gaming if I recall.

Definitely 17" as it'll double as my TV,I'm fairly well built 6'4" so I reckon I can handle the load,or lose a few pounds to make up the difference..
Found one from PC Nextday for a bit more at £699 with a really high spec.(Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, 256MB ATI X1600) but is apparently let down by - ' backlighting was a little uneven and the screen isn't very bright at its highest setting. It also has a grainy finish.' according to Computer SHopper magazine who PC Nextday advertise as they gave it 5/5 overall.Unfortunately screen quality is my main priority, though I can't afford the best.

I would try and go see the notebook or a similar one to see what the screen quality is like. There are some very good screens out there, and you need to decide yourself what is the best screen. The specification that you have stated is very good for the price. I would consider that, as it looks like quite a deal.
