Most 17" notebooks come with a powerful dedicated graphics card, which is something you don't need. Would you consider going with a smaller notebook and then hooking up an external monitor? That might not be a bad idea. Take a look at the ThinkPad T60 widescreen with the docking station if you like that.
For a 17", take a look at the HP nw8440. Business class quality and a great design.

Re: Business and Photoshop
Fujitsu N6410. It won't do 2.5 hrs on battery - which I think is the case for all DTRs - but I think you can get an extra battery. And there's a good Fujitsu repair place in California, T3, in case something goes wrong.
On top of good build quality and all that, it's a beautiful machine with a beautiful screen. It's glossy, but it's high quality so you don't have problems with glare like with cheaper screens. Has awesome viewing angles for movies. If you do take it out for presentations and what not, trust me, people will be impressed.
Also, you can have 2 HDDs, so if you don't feel like using an external HDD, you'll still have a plenty of storage.

Yes, I'd consider that. I wasn't sure if I needed a graphics card...I thought I would if I was doing image processing. What would you suggest if I was okay with a 15" model?
