The WSXGA+ screen on the Compal is not glossy. There aren't that many glossy WSXGA+ screens. The Asus G1p is over your budget. The Dell e1505 and Lenovo n100 are lower grade consumer notebooks.

I would think a lesser CPU than the T7200 would give you more bang for the buck.

Glossy WSXGA+ screens are rather hard to find these days. The Asus Z96J and G1p are two, but you really don't need the GPU power they come with since you do not play any games.

Thank you for the input information. Wasn't there a firm which can add or remove glossy screens on a notebook? Has anyone heard of this (HTML link?)?

Just a couple thoughts That looks very good. I must admit COMPAL HEL80 and Asus z96j are very great notebooks.
Would it be possible to upgrade the Asus z96j to a 100GB 7200 rpm HDD?

You can get the Asus Z96J custom configured at various dealers, such as www.PowerNotebooks.com and www.XoticPC.com. It is the best fit for your needs based on your FAQ. As posted, finding glossy high-resolution displays on 15.4" notebooks is difficult.

Make sure you call the place you are planning to order from in order to get the best deal. The people on the other end are usually very nice and accommodating, so it will add to your buying experience. :)
