Take Samsung, you don't have to worry about a lil' slower hard disk, because a 5400rpm will go very fast.It is more important to have a stronger procesor and graphic,if you want to work with Photoshop in Vista.
The prices are similar,so the choice is simple.

First, just forget about the Dell because is ridiculously overpriced in your country.
Second, fill out the FAQ if you want to get other suggestions.

Noswad, what did you go for in the end? I'd be interested to know your (or anyones!) opinion of the Samsung X60 if you have one, as I'm currently trying to weigh this against the Dell Precision M65. The latter lacks a bit of graphical grunt compared to the Samsung I think, but both seem good value.

I'm really very suprised on the Dell pricing in the UK. What the heck?
I'm in Canada and these things sell like hot cakes. Every newspaper has a Dell ad in there. That laptop sells here for like $900 CDN (1000 maybe), which is what, $500 pounds or something?
Dont' think the Samsung is a good price either. You could buy a plane ticket to Canada or the US, buy a laptop, and you essentially get a free trip out of it ;-)
I'm sure there's something else over there... Go Mac perhaps?
Or else pick anything cheap like an HP or something. Screw extra warranty. Use the heck out of it. Anything after 1 or 2 years is bonus, then buy a new one. Consumer society... and the land fills... oh well ;-)

Oh, I forgot - look at Lenovo. They're pretty darn cool - with the 1680 screen and all... nicely built, and the keyboard feels great. Definitely check that one out.
Screw that 1350+pound Dell and Samsung.

Screw that 1350+pound Dell and Samsung. Thanks, I have had a look at Lenovo (and HP amongst others) and they do seem very good. We have ThinkPads are work, and I agree that the build quality is fantastic.
However, the Samsung has pretty much the exact spec that I'm after (including a gaming grade GPU) and at a substantial saving over the Lenovo.
