I'm back and in need of opinion(s), once again...

Question:
I'm back and in need of opinion(s), once again...
Hi all,
Ok, I'm back and I'm totally frustrated: after all of this searching for the 'perfect' lappy for myself, I narrowed it down to the HP DV2000t. Now, however, HP has taken the Nvidia GO7200 out of it. That was a BIG plus for me to have. So, IF HP decideds to keep that lappy with only an INTEL 950, then I am thinking I might as well go with the SONY C-190 series. I need your opinion(s) on this though...
Thanks so much!

General Questions:
1) What is your budget?

$800-$1100 TOTAL!
2) What size notebook would you prefer?

13"-15"
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Surfing the net, downloading music, maybe burning a CD here and there, listening to music, watching movies, and some mild game play.
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?

Mainly the lappy will be at home, but I will take it with me on short vacations (friends house, upcoming Disneyland trip, visiting in-laws, etc.)
5) Will you be playing games on it? If so, which games?
MAYBE. IF so, World Of Warcraft, SW: Battlefront, HALO
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Not really. I just need it to last at least 3-5 years. Also, my FIL works for HP, so getting a discount there may be possible. BUT he says that the discount he receives isn't much more than their online coupons, so whatever. I'm open to other companies.

It'll mainly be plugged in. So 3 hours would be OK.

Yeah, that should be OK

Your best bet would be the 15.4 inch Dell Inspiron E1505 with the X1400 graphics card.

The ThinkPad R60 will offer you better quality than the Toshiba or HP. You can get it with the x1300/1400 and a high resolution screen if desired.

Hmmm... I sort of like that one. But unfortunately when I configure it to the specs. I need, I am getting a price of $1150, not including shipping nor taxes. I really need to stay around $1100 or less TOTAL. I am able to configure the DELL E1505 to around $1,070 with shipping and taxes (using coupon) and the HP DV6000T comes close to that too (using coupon). I really, really wanted a 14.1" screen, but unless HP restores the go 7200 or better in the DV2000t, I think I'm going to have to get a 15.4" screen. Oh well! I don't -think- the difference will be too noticeable. Besides, the lappy will mainly be at home anyway.

I only really know the UK market but I'd imagine you can get an Asus A6 with dual core and a go 7300 for your budget.

If you plan to keep this notebook a few years, I think it is easier to justify the investment. I don't know what specs you need, but getting less memory or smaller hard drive which can be upgraded later will help keep the cost down. The CPU is another option.

The difference on paper between a 14.1" and 15.4" screen seems like very little, but in terms of portability a 14.1" system will be much easier to handle. When it's not on your desk, even a 15.4" system can feel large.
The VAIO C-series is nice, but it won't handle the games you are looking to play--particularly the FPS games. WoW may be a different story at lower settings though.
The ThinkPad R60 really is worth serious consideration with your budget.
