1) What is your budget? <=$3k
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
a. Ultraportable; 12" screen or less

d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? routine office stuff (spreadsheets, wordprocessing, email, web surfing, etc.) plus Photoshop/graphics/some 3d
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? mostly on desk
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? no games
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? just returned a 10 day old Dell Inspiron E1705 -:mad: I see why Dell customer support is #1 LOUSY in recent poll of top 10 best and worst customer support companies!! Have been pleased with a Lenovo Z60m
7) How many hours of battery life do you need? not critical, 2 or 3

Screen Specifics
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen? widescreen, here's my dilema as most of the Lenovo's like T60p are only 15.4" with SXGA or UXGA resolution. So I thought I'd want an HP NX9420(RB550UA +1GB RAM) or their NW9440 (RM122UT) but then I'd heard HP support was much worse than Dell. . .:confused: I'm using a Lenovo Z60m which I love, but afraid I can't deal with teeny text from the higher native resolutions on their T60p. I see you guys like Asus, but know nothing about them. Spending DAYS to spec out and select laptops is giving me a migraine!! Help!!
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?

a. XGA -1024x768 - Large and easy to read text + graphics icons, but you fit less stuff on the screen.
b. SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA.
c. UXGA - 1600x1200 - Very small text and graphics icons, you can fit lots of stuff on the screen.
Widescreen
d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.

The support you will get on a business class laptop is considerably better than that you will get from a consumer grade machine. I have not heard any complaints about support on HP Business laptops. Check the HP forum and see if you can find any comments.
You have a huge budget and I doubt you will have to spend more than 2/3 of it to get what you want. There is a Lenovo T60 widescreen laptop you can look at too:

You can always change the text size on your machine. I had the same problem at work with my monitor so I just upped the text size because I need the huge screen for drafting.
