Question:
building a notebook, would like your opinions :)
Hi all,
This will be my first time building a laptop from scratch. I have build many Desktop already.
I would like your opinions and or recommendations on any product, and or any of the stores that i'm buying the products from.
Here they are:
From Milestonepc- http://wwww.milestonepc.com (heard really good things from this site)
- Compal HEL80_WSXGA+, Core Duo, 15.4", 1680x1050, GeForce Go 7600 256MB, SATA, DDR2 667, 1.3M Camera, 1 year warranty $719.00
which can be found here: http://www.milestonepc.com/states/pr...oducts_id=1333
- Intel Pro Wireless Card WM3945AGM1 $39.00
From Newegg.com
- Pioneer DVD Writer $72.00 - Model #: DVR-K06
- Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 Merom 2.0GHz $300.-
- Seagate Momentus 5400.2 ST9100824AS $ 110.00
- Patriot 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) $105.00
( I Like this memory brand a lot, always had great experiences with it)
So in Total this laptop will cost me about $1400.00
Well that's it. If I forgot an important part please let me know.
BTW any help at all will be highly appreciated.

By my calculations, you won't be saving much to assemble your own HEL80. I configured one to match yours for less than $100 more.
I'm not trying to stop you from building your own system, but the added bonus of a comprehensive warranty for 3 years may be worth a little more money. That and you won't have to worry about parts compatibility and the intricacies of assembling your own notebook. Just my $.02

Chrisyano thanks for the quick reply. I really dont have to build my own laptop. If I can get about the same specs for about the same price that would be great. Can you recommend me a site? Because at first I wanted to buy from ibuypower.com but after seeing its ratings from resellerratings I backed off.
GlitterRock thanks for the reply. Yeah a 7200rpm would be awesome, but will it drain the battery a lot quicker? or just a bit more?

Just a bit more.

I got mine from powernotebooks.com. Other reputable resellers to check out are xoticpc.com, and discountlaptops.com. I'm quite sure Milestonepc.com will also assemble the system for you as well.
A 7200 RPM HD shouldn't have much effect on battery life.

Drive speed does not affect battery life. You MAY see a slight decrease, ~5-10 minutes, but you will in turn be saving it by having all of the increased productivity and search times. The resellers that chrisyano listed are the best in the business and will thoroughly take care of your needs.

Thanks a lot for all the help guys :)
I will take a look at all the resellers.
Oh one more thing let's say I order the laptop from one of those resellers how long will it take for me to get my costumized laptop? 1-2 weeks?
Because I read a few places that some persons got their laptop in 3 weeks :(
I really dont want to wait 3 weeks or more to get the laptop.
thanks guys :)

portableone.com has some pretty nifty notebooks
Usually,, it will take around 10 days for your laptop to arrive (1 day to process order, 5 for building, and 3 for shipping)
