Question:
Confused b/w AMD turion and Intel dual core
Hello everyone
I’m planning to buy a laptop preferably an HP one (or if u can suggest a better one in India).My budget is around 50000 to 55000 INR (1$=48 to 50 INR) .I have chosen some must have things in the laptop that I’m specifying below:
Processor :Intel core duo or AMD turion (my biggest confusion)
L2 cache: >1MB
RAM: >=512MB
HDD: >=60GB
Screen size: 15” or 15.4”
Optical drive: DVD rom(combo) or DVD writer
OS: win Xp or home or media center or Linux(actually I want one which won’t give any problem on installing linux) and should be win vista compatible
LAN :integrated wireless lan ,Bluetooth etc
These r some of the main features that I want to have in the laptop
One more confusion that I have is b/w HP or others in terms of servicing i.e. which one provides better service in India
But my main confusion is between processors actually I’m more inclined towards AMD turion than towards core duo but i’m scared if I would be able to install linux or other softwares on it so please regarding this as well.Also I,ve heard from a lot of ppl that AMD sytems heats up early than Intel based systems and suitable for gamers (but I’m not a gamer).
So please reply asa possible that is which model from which company is a better option for me

Re: Confused b/w AMD turion and Intel dual core
Generally speaking, Intel's Core (2) Duo processors are the best processors in the world for any kind of work. So, if the diffence in the price is not so big, taking a Intel's CPU is preferable considering the performance and the battery life.
Otherwise, I will tell you what I know about the notebooks in India according to information in the threads that I've replied
Considering your budget I can suggest several options
HP dv6000t (15.4") / dv2000t (14.1") - better quality and design
Compaq V3000 (14.1")
Dell 6400 (15.4) / 640m (14.1) - usually cheaper, acceptable quality
all those notebooks are in your price range
As regars the service, I don't know anytning about the notebooks in India but I will just quote on another forum member I've talked to
i'm stuck with dell because they are better than HP and all others as far as service is concerned. HP really sucks here in India, all others just don't provide service here, HP uses the printer repair division for Laptop repair over here..
Anyway, check all that information because as I mentioned I'm so far from India.
Ask if you have more questoins.

Re: Confused b/w AMD turion and Intel dual core
I agree with the previous post. Moreover, you're more likely to have issues with linux on the amd turion notebook than on the intel one. Though it always depends on the specific model. The price difference between intel and amd notebooks is hardly noticeable, while the superiority in quality and battery life of intel notebooks is hardly questionable. Don't support from your pocket AMD ambitions not supported by top quality and best quality per price.

Intel has had the best notebook processors in most price ranges now...I would always recommend them. Better battery life and more power for the average joe.
