Question:
Compal HGL30--how to customize it?-someone plz help...
first of all, is there a big difference between the core 2 duo 1.66GHz and the 1.83GHz?...
I'm gonna buy a HGL30 but the price is a little over my budget (specially when i need to pay $85 to ship to PR). I'm looking to see what i can sacrifice to lower the price and i was thinking of the processor or HDD... here is how i was gonna buy it:
Compal HGL30
14.1" WXGA (1280 x 800) "Glossy" LCD w/PCI-e nVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 w/256MB (cant change that)
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.83GHz 667MHz- +50
Artic Silver 5- +50
1GB SDRAM (1SODIMM)- +65
100GB HDD SATA 5400rpm- +45
Intel Wireless 3945- +40
Built in Bluetooth- +40
For $1,381+$85 shipping:)

Between the two CPU's it really depends on what you are going to do with it.
In simple tasks you wouldnt notice, but I would encode video/audio/heavy gaming, then it may have an effect.
Sacrifice the Hard Drive, its much easier to upgrade in the future than the CPU and not nearly as expensive if you decide to buy a newer, better one.

There isn't much performance difference between the 1.66 and 1.83GHz. You are better off getting the 1.83 however, since its easier to upgrade the HD in future.

im not sure if BF2, BF2142, AA, splinter cell DB, CS:S classifies under heavy gaming :S....does it? lol...
and also....is there a BIG difference between a 7200rpm HDD and a 5400rpm one??

Re: Compal HGL30--how to customize it?
The games you mentioned do fall under the heavy gaming category.
There will be a noticeable performance increase between a 7200rpm and a 5400rpm HD. Applications load faster, Windows boots quicker, etc, with a 7200rpm HD.

Check out this thread for differences between a 5400 and 7200RPM hard drive:
\Anything that uses the hard drive (booting up, starting programs, loading games...) will see a performance boost. The hard drive is the slowest component in a computer.
The 1.83GHz processor is not a bad option either, I recommend getting that.

Not unless you have Bluetooth devices.
EDIT: looks like jetstar beat me to posting.
If you can't afford the 7200RPM hard drive upgrade, don't sweat it . . it would be nice to have, but it is not essential to get good performance. The 100GB 5400RPM drive is actually pretty quick.
