Filling in my questionaire.. :)

Question:
Filling in my questionaire.. :)
1) What is your budget?
Up to about 1700 or 1800.. though preferably more in the <$1500 range (not afraid to spend it bit more if I'll be happier).
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
a. Ultraportable; 12" screen or less
b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
I've worked with 14.1" before and I find them a bit big for what I'm looking for. 13.3" will do, but 12" would be nice if it weren't so expensive :P.

3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Will be used for school.. so internet, word processing, listening to music, watching videos... no real gaming, though.
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
It'll follow me everywhere.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Likely not..
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I've been looking into Sony and Dell, but not much beyond that (open to suggestions).
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
I guess about 5 hours.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
I'd prefer to see it in person, then buy it online.
9) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in?
I'm Canadian, but there's a possibility of me ordering US and having it brought over the border (anyone with info on taxes/duties would be much appreciated).
Screen Specifics
10) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
No preference.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
No real preference, though I generally prefer to be able to see more on a screen.
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Again, no preference.
Build Quality and Design
13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Always :).
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
3 years about.
Notebook Components
15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 160GB?
40 GB
16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
Not necessary, but not looked down on.

You can look at the Dell XPS M1210, Sony VAIO SZ (although overpriced), or Asus W7J. I'm not sure if the W7J is over your budget, but it is a highly regarded notebook here.

Those recommendations would work, and the m1210 would be the best bang for the buck. I'd also suggest you look into a Macbook.

You may like the Asus Z35F. Maybe even the Sager NP6260. The Sony VAIO SZ is nice as well, but rather pricey for what you get.
Good luck.

I was considering either the SONY SZ series or the C series... Does anyone have any suggestions for specific models? I was looking at the C190 or maybe the SZ340... but I'm not sure.
Does "overpriced" mean "not worth it"?

There is no doubt the Sony VAIO line is stylish. But compared to a similar configuration from another brand, you will pay more. Also, they often use lower-spec components like slower RAM or HDs, and don't offer the higher-speed stuff that others do.
If you are happy with the VAIO though, go for it. I particularly like the SZ.
