Re: Advice on buying a notebook
Since your budget is $800 go with the dual core 1.6. Your best option is the Dell E1505 with the X1400 for gaming. Its cheap and has a midrange graphics card.

Re: Advice on buying a notebook
I would also recommend the e1505. Processor speed does matter somewhat, however, all the processors currently out will have more than enough power for you needs. I'd get an intel chip over AMD at the moment, but with your budget, I wouldn't be too picky. Consider filling out the FAQ for some other options. The dv6000series might be worth a look.

Re: What Notebook?
I don't think that there are any mainstream notebooks able to get 6-8 hours on a battery... Maybe e1405 will give you 6 on a good day but it doesn't offer WUXGA. You really need to up your budget to get what you want. Consider the dell d820--it offers a wuxga screen, but make sure that is what you want--it will be pretty small text. you also won't find it for under 1000 dollars. I'd check out the Dell Outlet at odd hours in the morning for a good deal.
Very few laptops give over 6 hours on a single charge--those that I know of are the Panasonic toughbook series and the Lenovo x60/x60s. They don't meet your other criteria or your budget, though.

Re: Advice on buying a notebook
Yeah I agree - not many notebooks out there can give you 6 - 8 hours of battery life unless you turn a lot of things down/off. I also recommend the E1505 with an X1400. Take a look in Dell's Outlet - you can usually get brand new notebooks for a lot cheaper there.
