Question:
Did I do OK with this!
I've been searching for a sub $2000 gaming notebook for weeks and just before buying a Toshiba P100 stumbled into this on the Dell Outlet:
XPS M1710 Notebook:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2GHz/667MHz/4MB)
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS
Genuine Windows XP Media Center 2005 (not sure I can get them to add a free vista upgrade)
Microsoft Works 8.5
120 GB EIDE Hard Drive (5400 RPM) Arghhh not 7200RPM!
8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
17 inch (Metallic Black Chassis) UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife
1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 677MHz (2 DIMMs)
XPS M1710 STD: 1Yr Ltd Warranty, 1Yr Onsite Service, and 1Yr XPS Warranty Support
Purchase price $1869 before taxes w/ free shipping.
Honest opinions, did I do well?
You think I should upgrade the warranty?
Will the hard-disk speed (5400) prove a real headache, or, not such a big deal?
Thanks for the feedback!

It should be fine for your gaming needs. A 7200 RPM only decreases load times and might give you a few more FPS, but considering that the 7900 GS can play almost any game nicely those few FPS wont really make a difference. Nice catch from the outlet :)

Re: Did I do OK with this!
Thanks for the peace of mind. It was a totally off the cuff purchase, which is not my MO. Much nail-biting. But the professional reviews are so strong for the XPS model it seemed like a gem to find a C2Duo sitting there with those specs at that price. I wonder why it isn't shipping until Nov 29th? Its already built, what else would they need to do with it?
