Question:
$600: Thinkpad R60 or Compaq V3000
Thanks Zaz for the suggestion on the V3000 series by Compaq
Trying to Decide between the Compaq V3000 and the Lenovo Thinkpad R60
Spec:
Compaq V3000T:
-Core Duo T2050e (1.6 ghz)
-512 mb memory (533 fsb)
-WiFi a/b/g
-CD-RW/DVD-ROM
-60GB harddrive
-Imprint Finish
-14.1' Widescreen WXGA
$600
Thinkpad R60:
-Core Duo T2300e (1.66 ghz)
-1.5 gb memory (667 fsb)
-WiFi a/b/g
-CD-ROM
-40GB hardrive
-14.1' XGA
-Think Roll Cage w/ Active Shock Protection
$610
Consideration:
Compaq V3000T is soooo nice looking, unbelievable for the price range. It also has bigger harddrive, better optical drive, better screen, and better audio (altec lansing).
Thinkpad R60 has faster and bigger memory, active protection for harddrive, and Thinkpad quality build, also like other thinkpad features: thinklight, trackpoint
Thanks for suggestion :-)

Well, the thinkpad might be a typo with the 1.5gb RAM, if it does have this much, then by all means, this is a no brainer. but if it doesn't, I would recommend the Thinkpad soley on the keyboard and trackpad. Both notebooks will be able to run AOE 3, but it would look more like a hybrid between AOE 2 and 3 than anything with most of the details turned down. I would also recommend the Thinkpad based on the fact that AOE 3 can run very smoothly with at least some of the eye candy turned up.
Thumbs up to the Thinkpad R60.

Thanks for the suggestions :-)
The thinkpad is not a typo. I know that i am getting a very steep discount on the R60, but i am just wondering vis-a-vis without initial price in consideration, is it significantly better than the compaq one?
i guess in someway, the compaq one was designed for home entertainment with good screen, good audio, and awesome exterior design. the thinkpad one is more about being tough for business.
oh i could also upgrade the R60 harddrive to 60Gb for $20 more, and CD-ROM to CDRW/DVD-ROM for $30 more. Do these worth the investment? (lol... i am very broke....)

There is no way the Compaq V3000T can beat the Thinkpad R60 in terms of any aspect u can think of, not even a close comparision IMO.

At those prices, the Thinkpad is a gimmee, unless you're dead set on having a widescreen. But I don't know when Lenovo's cheap RAM upgrade deal ends.

My pick goes with the ThinkPad, where did you find that price with 1.5GB of RAM?
