as much as possible, within budget, i guess. but i'm using an external drive for images, music etc.

I've looked at a few alternatives, so if anyone has any experience with them i'd be happy to know. I want it to be silent, because my current laptop makes a huge noise, and i'm tired of it.

any decent alternatives to these? some brands, like aliemware and sony are not available in norway.

The HP nx7400 you are looking at is a spectacular choice; business-class quality and a good warranty. It is also widescreen. I would recommend getting more RAM if possible; 1GB is ideal these days.
If you want a standard machine, it looks like you have covered your bases there too - the ThinkPad R-series offers quality and a wonderful keyboard for a good price. Once again though, you are going to want to upgrade the RAM to 1GB. A possible alternative to the R-series is the HP nx6325, along with the Dell Latitude D520.
My preference would be:
