graduate student in need of laptop
I'm a computer science graduate student whose in need of an affordable laptop to work on holidays/at conferences. The premier requirement is that it should be able to run microsoft visual c++ 2005 reasonably well.
This will be a secondary computer, so bells and whistles can be exchanged for price.
1) What is your budget?
I'd like to get in at less than 1000$ CAN

3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
work (compiling programs as I mentioned), power point etc. Also multimedia.
4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
taking it to different places, but not taking it to classes or anything like that. It just needs to get on a plane reasonably well.
5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
If anything, don't worry about it.
6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
As much as possible.
8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?

hmm, the one thing you'll want is at LEAST 512mb of ram...
i'd recommend checking out something from dell, such as the 640m, with an extended battery, you're looking at a nice notebook with long battery life. Yes, i live in canada too, and know how hard it is to find the right stuff here!
i too am looking for the same kind of thing, but i need a graphics card, so i'm looking at the 1501 and the 6400
