Well I been looking around at school and most people have a 15" I have asked the people about the 17"'s and get mised results some love them and some hate them
I still have not found an easy way to decide on a 17 or 15 in one, My desktop is about 3 years old now and my video card does have trouble (x6800 I believe, it gets weird graphics on the screen)
I kind of want to get one with Windows XP, I am not really leaning towards Vista, will get it if I have to though
Also I will be hopefully moving to an oncampus apartment, so I am not sure how much I will be moving my laptop around
Also with Vista coming out should I wait and see what happens with the prices
I have looked at the compaq NX9420, it seems nice for 1300$ rigth now and I can get a 3 year total care warranty for 250$ and 2gb ram for another $200
So I guess I can use that as a benchmark pc
Also I would like an accident/total care warranty 3 year would be nice 5 years great

Re: $1500 Laptop
You'll want to steer clear of the 17" notebooks if you plan to move around with this thing; they are very bulky and not portable. Go to Best Buy and see for yourself, there are different size laptops there (other electronics stores too).
Gophn made two excellent suggestions; I would lean toward the HEL80 because it has slightly better build quality for about the same price. PowerNotebooks.com offers a 3-year warranty on their PowerPro models.

Re: $1500 Laptop
I will check em out, need to see how good a warranty it is and who the underwriter is. I work for a computer repair place (we do not do lapotops though) so I know which ones are better than others somewhat

Re: $1500 Laptop
The Compal HEL80 and Asus Z96J are both excellent options for you.
If you were to go with Powernotebooks, they do their own servicing.

Re: $1500 Laptop
I did look at the warranty and it seems normal when I start to add in the prices it does come up right at 1450$ but I would like a stronger warranty

Re: $1500 Laptop
Stronger than 3-year, two-way next-business-day shipping covered? That will be very hard to beat, especially without paying a premium.
Answer:
I do not need the next business day part I would do fine with depot repair
I been pricing all the differnet 15" ones on powernotebooks and most come up right at $1500. Makes me wonder if it cost $100 per inch of notebook
The only non-standard site I found so far is Flawless computers and they offer a 2 year total care for 350$ but that only covers 1 lcd screen and they are also expensive on ram (2gb for 280)

Re: $1500 Laptop
Asus F3jp is also another fine choice, I'd reccomend it over the Z96j myself.

Re: $1500 Laptop
Taqwus, check out the HP line of laptops - specifically the Pavillion DV9000t (for 17") and DV6000t (for 15"). I'm basically looking for the exact same thing as you and these both have gotten solid reviews. Great all around multimedia machines from what I've read. Not cutting edge graphics but it should run WoW and current and last gen FPS's pretty well.
Battery life ranges from 2 hours to 3 and a half with the high capacity battery. Plus it is around your price range.
