Mid-High End Laptop for College

Question:
Mid-High End Laptop for College
I have been looking at the Compal HEL80 for some time, I will probably be buying one in a couple days unless someone suggests something better. I do know about Santa Rosa and all that but the latest i want to purchase is the beginning of june and i dont want to wait forever for it to ship to me. I just dont see that happening with santa rosa and i dont want the HEL80 to sell out at powernotebooks so i'll probably be buying soon.

a. Ultraportable; 12" screen or less
b. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
c. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
d. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
No larger than 15.4", all the 17" i have seen are too huge and get poor battery life.

6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
I might want to take it to classes sometimes
7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Yes. I would like to play current games such as far cry, HL2, BF2, BF2142, FEAR, Oblivion, Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes, etc at fairly high settings. I would also like to be able to play future games such as Crysis at low-med settings.
8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
4ish
9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
I have no problem buying online.
10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
XP i've heard bad things about Vista... might buy a copy when all the bugs get worked out.
Screen Specifics
11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?

b. SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA.
c. UXGA - 1600x1200 - Very small text and graphics icons, you can fit lots of stuff on the screen.
Widescreen
d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
No preference

Another one to consider would be the HP NC8430. It has the ATI X1600 which is comparable to the Go 7600. Also, it is about 1 pound lighter than the Hel80 and is probably more durable due to its business class quality. Check it out here:

Re: Mid-High End Laptop for College
I would go with the dell if it had a better graphics card. Speaking of graphics cards... does anything think that a HEL80 with a 7600 go will run crysis at all? Im hoping for low-med settings.
