Question:
NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M ok for gaming?
I hear the Lenovo 61p's are gonna be released with a 570m quadro, which apparently is a business version of nvidia dedicated graphics based off of either the 8400m or 8600m. I am very interested in this laptop learning about the internal roll cage, protected HD, and possibly spill resistant keypad?
These sound good for someone with awful luck.
And I like the looks of these thinkpads as well.
I just want to be sure I'd be able to play some mid/high games and not have too many driver issues with a Quadro fx 570m over some geforce card.
Any input would be much appreciated.

I wonder if anyone actually still has a recoverable laptop after spilling a cup of water onto that keyboard...no matter how spillproof and how many drainage holes they put in it...I'm still skeptical that you can toss any decent amount of liquid onto it without it going splat...or for that matter..has anyone dropped their laptop from a few stories up to see if that HD still works? :P
Anyways, I have very low expectations of the FX 570M. Consider the best case scenario: that it's based off the 8600M GT, and that there's a minimal loss of fps and minimal driver issues. Well, the 8600M GT itself isn't great for gaming..it's only mid-range, and the performance has been disappointing to say the least.
Now consider that the 570M will most likely not even be based off the 8600M GT--more likely the GS, which is even worse...and you're still getting lower fps because it's not designed for gaming.

In that case, how does the 7700gt and "around there" models compete with the mid range DX10 cards, such as the 8600Mgt.
I still am leaning towards the T61p just because of superior durability, small accidents seem to be my bane, such as a something sliding off a desk or what not. Some ass accidentally knocking a can onto the keypad.. You know.
But a bit off topic, would the 7 series of nvidia graphics go down in price i nthe enar future because of the releasing of the 8 series into mobile solutions?

Some benchmarks - they're not an indication of real gaming performance, but at least it's something to compare them by

The Quadro FX570M probably will be a decent card but of if you're not gonna use it for what's disigned for, then you should look elsewhere.
That's said, I would check out the upcomming HP 8510p, which is also business-class notebook and it will also have magnesium alloy chassis, HDD shocks and spill-free keyboard..etc. and it's really close to the T61 but with regular gaming card.

what im seeing is that what may be cheaper soon dx9 series geforce cards perform better than midrange dx10's by a mile.

i dont think those benches are accurate.
i really think the 8600m gt in particular is going to prove to be a really strong contender in newer games.
it will really pull apart from the pack in the new games that are more and more shader computation intensive and eventually those games that support directx 10
and the most recent benchmarks put the 3dmark06 score in the 3800's instead of the 3300's
food for thought.

It's only supposed to come with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 though, and not the XT version (why can't they just come out with a perfect laptop like the V1? :p)
It should still be better than the FX 570M though.
EDIT: referring to the HP Compaq 8510p

Having all this said I am no longer leaning in any direction, as I have been for the past few weeks :P
I am not sure what laptop I am looking for.
When I look back towards the 7700mgt's which would prolly suit me fine, i don't see santa rosa.
Honestly I think I am looking for a notebook with the following..
Windows XP professional.. unless someone can convince me to vista.
2.0 Santa Rosa w/4mb cache
7700gt (or something around the same performance.. hoping the 7700 prices drop?)
15.4 display
100gb 7200rpm hardrive
DVD-RW Optical
built in camera 1.3 or 2.0
2gb DDR2 ram 667/800
Wireless a/g/b (maybe n..)
Maybe bluetoof
A nice, not too flashy but well supplied case with decent battery life.
Firewire/usbs in not dumb areas etc..
If found plz deliver to my house? :]
Or link to a well dependable reseller/brand.
I was gonna say something else but forgot :|

The HP mentioned above should work - it's a bit expensive for its specs like all HP business machines though.
Asus V1 refresh will meet most of those requirements when it comes out. The VX2 refresh will surpass those requirements, but it's also extremely expensive for its price.
The Compal IFL90 meets the non-business specs of what you want. Donald and Justin swear it's amazingly sturdy, but it probably won't have the Mg chassis or spill-proof keyboard or HDD shock protection you want though.
This thread consolidates some of the info of various combinations of DX10 cards and SR refreshes:
I have a similar problem as you (I want the best gaming GPU I can get on a business chassis). The only machine I've found that will meet all my requirements is the Asus V1 or VX2 refresh.
