Question:
14" or 15.4" Gaming Notebook $1300-1600
1) What is your budget?
1000-1600
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
14" or 15.4"
3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in.
USA
4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I like HP and Asus, and am open to other suggestions.
5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Primarily writing (I am a writer) and gaming (in my spare time).
6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
I will be taking my notebook with me everywhere (and I mean everywhere! lol). Though I would rather have a 14" inch, I wouldn't mind so much lugging a 15.4" with me either...
7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
I realize this may be unrealistic, but I hope to play the upcoming DX10 games Crysis and Lost Planet on this notebook, even if the settings aren't turned up. I also want to play Halo2, HL2 and CS:S and 1.6.
8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Minimum of 2.5 hours, hopefully more. If less than six hours in a single charge, then I will get a second battery to give me more time on the go.
9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
I would love to buy a laptop online. :)
10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
I'm hoping for Vista because of Halo 2 and the other DX10 games being on it, but I could possibly get XP and upgrade it later.
Screen Specifics
11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
I am hoping for a 1440x900 on a 14" or a 1680x1050 on a 15.4". I could possibly get by with lesser resolutions, but I woud like higher resolutions so I can see more of the screen when writing (and also when playing games, but with the games I want to play, I don't expect to play them at high resolutions).
13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
It matters not...
Build Quality and Design
14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Yes. I would get the IFL90 (because of its awesome features and price), but it so much resembles a grey brick that I better picture it as part of a weight set than something I would take to the office.
15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
I plan on buying this laptop within the next few weeks, but if I absolutely must, I can wait until maybe late July.
Notebook Components
16) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 200GB?
Over 100 gb...
17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
DVD-RW...
That pretty much sums it up... Thanks for your suggestions! Right now, I am seriously considering the A8Js or the F3SV-B1. Anyone else got any suggestions/recommendations besides those? Also, between those two lap toppies, which one do you guys think would better fit me?

Asus A8J, although it only has decent battery life (2:30).

But since you want DX10, you might want to wait a little for upcoming computers with DX10 and Santa Rosa that will fit your budget.

Re: 14" or 15.4" Gaming Notebook $1300-1600
Have you heard about any upcoming Santa Rosa laptops that fit what I am looking for then?
I heard something about a A8Js refresh that might be coming, but I don't know if I can wait a couple months for it :P.
Do we have a any idea what FPS the F3SV would get with a DX10 game? Say Lost Planet?

i can probably guess the f3sv could play decently well on medium settings since it scored something like a 2400 on 3d mark 06. altho many would suggest you wait for the F8, the A8Js refresh, early indications points that it might carry a card similar to that of the F3SV.

Would you have any idea as to when the F8 would be coming out?

Re: 14" or 15.4" Gaming Notebook $1300-1600
The only person that even gave a rumor was milestonepc.com and he said august.
Then proportable said the a8js refresh was july. So if those two are the same thing, you can only think july or august.
If the f8 and the a8js refresh are different things though then it could be out sooner. If you follow. Its possible there is a a8 santa rosa 8600 gt, AND a f8 santa rosa with maybe hd2600.
But if you are waiting you might have to wait until august.
You have to realize that theres only so many 8600 gts, thats the key part. The ones asus got, they are going into the g1 and g2 first

How bout the new dv2500t and dv6500t with nvidia 8x00m cards? Are they good enough for gaming? Cos they definitely are much prettier than the Asus. Hehe.

Ya I couldnt really say how much the performance difference would make.
They are definitely nicer and tougher. The hp dv series is the nicest cheap laptop.
If you can live with a 8400 long term the dv 2500 is particularly apealing.
