Question:
Need recommendations on a new laptop.
1) What is your budget?
~2000
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
I would prefer a 15-16" laptop considering I am going to college, HOWEVER, if I cannot get the components I want in a 15.4", I will go up to 17.
3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in.
U.S.
4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Nothing I am particularly leaning toward or away from. I have an ABS Mayhem G4 right now, and I'm fairly unhappy with it, so probably not ABS. HP, Dell, Asus, Sony, etc.
5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Mainly gaming and multimedia. As of now, I'm playing games that wouldn't really require an amazing video card (i.e. CS:S, WoW, Warcraft 3, Worms, etc) but I would like to have a video card that would be capable of handling graphics intensive games within the next few years. So essentially, I would like a nice video card.
6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
If there's one thing I need my notebook to be is durable. I will be carrying it around campus and from place to place at LANs. I do not want to have to be getting it repaired very often.
7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
See above.
8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
This is rather negligible. 2-3 hours would be fine.
9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
Wherever I can get the best deal.
10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
Vista is fine
Screen Specifics
11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
no preference
12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
no preference
13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
no preference
Build Quality and Design
14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
It's SOMEWHAT important. I find Dells ugly and HPs rather stylish.
15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? 2-4 years
Notebook Components
16) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 200GB?
Looking for a 7200 rpm hard drive. Anything bigger than 100gb will suffice. I know its hard to get this in a 15.4 inch laptop, so I guess 5400 rpm will be okay.
17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive? Eh, not particularly.
Essentially, I would like a durable notebook that will be capable of running high graphics games in the near future. I guess powerful, yet portable.
Thanks in advance!

That says to me you should get a smaller notebook. Unfortunately the 17" notebooks have the best graphics card. The HP 8510p seems like a good candidate when it is released.

Re: Need recommendations on a new laptop.
The HP 8510p with HD 2600 graphics card will be one of the best built gaming notebooks around, it will come out at the beginning of the next month. That's what I would get..
Otherwise, the Asus G1s and the Compal IFL90 are available now, which are not as durable as the HP but have more powerful video cards.

Yes, it's a business-class notebook.... what exactly are you asking about?
And, I said that, it's going to be one of the best built gaming notebooks, in other words in terms of build quality and keyboad.
Any questions?

well, i already know for a fact that i'm going to purchase an HP 8510p, but as you were saying it's going to be the best gaming notebook because of it's build quality and keyboard? or also because of its "High-end Graphics card" as stated on the hp website?

He didn't say it's the "best gaming notebook". He said it will be "one of the best-built gaming notebooks". i.e. it is a gaming notebook, and while it's not necessarily the best gaming notebook, it is built better than most other gaming notebooks.
If you want to improve gaming, you'll probably have to sacrifice build quality and go with a Compal or one of the consumer-class Asus notebooks. They're built fine themselves, but HP's business class lineup is well-known for durability.
