HELP! Need new notebook

Question:
HELP! Need new notebook
I am in desperate need of a new notebook. I previously had a 17 inch dell (loaded) but it was stolen. I am not in need of something MUCH smaller. I ordered the Dell 1420 and was disappointed with the weight and the screen. I have narrowed it down to a 12.1 - 13.3 inch screen - at least 2ghz - 2mb memory (am I saying all of these tech words right) with a budget of around $1600. I will use the notebook for school - so the lighter the better. I have looked at the sony - and of course the one that I want it $2500 (I like it to have it all, just don't want to pay for it all!) I have also looked at the thinkpad - but am worried about getting used to only having the red button and no optical drive. Any suggestions would be wonderful!! :)

Re: HELP! Need new notebook
Thanks to both of you. My concern with dell is that they are heavier with others. Could you tell me how much this particular dell that you created for me would weigh? I also had problems with my screen and the colors on the 1420 - it was very dim and grainy. Would the 1330 have those same issues? How long of a battery life would this model have? Thanks again for all of your help!! I am most grateful!

Re: HELP! Need new notebook
Dell say it should weigh 1.79kg, but that the lightest it could be, so more likley to be around 2kg, which is pretty light. As for the screen it is possible to get an LCD display, which should be bright, the same type as a tv would have i believe

Re: HELP! Dell 1330 vs. Lenovo X61's
Thanks! Does anyone have an opinion on the Dell 1330 vs. Lenovo X61's? And does the X61's not having a wide screen make it look like it has a small screen?
