Just double checking, are you sure you want a 17" when you will be taking it everywhere?
Answer:
Re: What notebook should i buy?
the one i use now has a 17 in widescreen, if ur asking because of the size thats not an issue for me. although if for a technical reasona smaller screen is better feel free to recommend y. im not dead set on any of these options, if going another way would improve performance.

Re: What notebook should i buy?
No technical reason why smaller screen is better (Other than battery life of course... Bigger LCD drains more power).
Clevo M570ru @ around 2200$ could satisfy your hardcore gaming needs.
Geforce 7950GTX GPU
T7500
2-3GB RAM

Re: What notebook should i buy?
The Asus seems like a good pick. With the cpu being a 64bit, would it be beneficial for me to opt for the 64 bit vista? The site I visited wouldnt let me upgrade the card from the nvidia 8600 to the 8700, anyone know a place where i can? Lastly, I've grown reliant on the keypad on my toshiba p105, anyone know if its possible to get the asus model with a keypad?

Re: What notebook should i buy?
Don't worry about "64-bit" CPUs or OS's, they're still way too infant to be of any real practical use, essentially, anything a 64-bit system can do, a 32-bit can still do just as well, and in some respects, do better because of the well-established software base and drivers that come with the tried-and-true 32-bit system.
Also any Santa Rosa Core2 Duo processor is capable of 64-bit, so the Asus and the Clevo (Sager NP5790) are capable of 64-bit Windows XP and Windows Vista if you want.
The Sager NP5790 comes with a numberpad, I'm not sure about the Asus G2S-A1 from the top of my head. Also, the 8700m GT loses to the 7950 GTX in benchmark tests, but the Sager is MXM compatible and can have its graphics card upgraded to an 8700 or even 8800 if they prove to be compatible. If you're unsure, I say wait a bit and see how people fare with upgrading their graphics cards if you can afford to wait.

Re: What notebook should i buy?
I was considering the 8700 over the 7950 because my understanding is it will offer better support for the dx10 games coming out. Is that incorrect, would the 7950 be the better choice?
Answer:
Re: What notebook should i buy?
Well in DX10 only games, then the 8700m GT will be the only obvious choice, but doing that for a game is akin to marketing suicide, games want to be as compatible as possible to obtain a large player base to play it, so making a game DX10 exclusive is, to be frank, dumb. Don't worry about any DX10 games in the near future, they will have DX9 modes, including Crysis, and from videos and screenshots, you'll still get plenty of eye candy, but you'll be missing some effects.
Of course if that's uncomfortable for you, you can always upgrade the card later if it proves to be compatible for the Sager.
