MBP vs. Asus G1s vs. IFL90

Question:
MBP vs. Asus G1s vs. IFL90
Hey guys, I'm trying to chose between the MBP and Asus G1s (not as keen on the IFL90 design but its definately a comparable spec). Without wanting to start up another OSX vs. Windows debate I'd like to get a feel for the majority view...

Spec Comparison:

There's no majority view between the 3. They're very similar, but they all have slight differences. It all depends on what your own needs and wants are.

Thought I'd fill this out as well to help with any recomendations:
General Questions
1) What is your budget?
~$3000
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
15"-17"
3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in.
UK (where a 15"MBP w/ 7200rpm HDD is ~$3000...even with educational discount!)
4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Not really too bothered otherwise about brand or design but I do love the MBP design (makes it worth the extra money!)
5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Mainly just light use and a bit of gaming
6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Mainly just home use
7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
I'd like a notebook able to play new games on med settings for at least a year or two. Unfortunately I'm a particular fan of Ms Flight Sim X and I'd like to be able to play with reasonable graphics settings and at least ~20fps (quite a lot ask from such a system hogging game!)
8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
Not too bothered, anything above 2hr+ is fine.
9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
Not a problem
10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
No real preference
Screen Specifics
11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?
No real preference
12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
No real preference
13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Matte preferably
Build Quality and Design
14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Somewhat, I love the MBP design but the Asus G1s is ok too. Not so keen on the IFL90
15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
I'll be looking to buy a laptop as soon as possible preferably. But I need it to last about 3-4 yrs so would like it to be future-proofed as much as possible (...practically unattainable in a laptop it seems!)
Notebook Components
16) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 200GB?
Anything over 100GB is ok really.
17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive?
Yes, a DVD-RW preferably.

Re: MBP vs. Asus G1s vs. IFL90
Actually a 2.4GHz MBP w/ the HDD upgrade and warranty costs ~$3000 in the U.S. too, even with the academic discount.
Well, if you have no real preference for OS and since you have a nice hefty budget...go with the MBP. You seem to be leaning towards that anyway. This is also the only one of the 3 you listed that offers a matte screen choice.
The Compal IFL90 is a nice price for value, but it'll fall way under your budget. You can afford to spend a little for extra luxuries - like style. Certain European retailers *may* offer a matte screen option. Check carefully on that.
The G1S is probably the best for gaming among the 3...probably only slightly ahead of the MBP though.
If you don't plan on moving your laptop much or using the battery, you might consider the c90s. It uses desktop processors, but otherwise will be better for gaming than the rest.
As for 17"
The Clevo m570ru is a good choice.
The d900c is the best gaming system in the world, but it shares the same disadvantages as the c90s above with its desktop processors.
I also personally would not recommend either the c90s or d900c - especially since you want it to last 3-4 years. 3-4 years on a pure gaming laptop is hard.

Re: MBP vs. Asus G1s vs. IFL90
MBP is overpriced in my opinion. I almost got it, but opted for the G2S instead b/c it has more connectivity, overheats less, and actually works with my music production hardware, which my dad's MBP doesn't seem to like :(

Re: MBP vs. Asus G1s vs. IFL90
I'd say the Clevo M570RU, (To be announced for pre-order today at 6PST), should be reasonably priced like the M570U, and matched with a nvidia 8700gt. This will give you the best gaming experience.

I'd go for the MBP. It's not over priced. In fact, the MBP is one of the slimest laptops ever built. It's even thinner than the ASUS G1s, and has santa rosa with dx 10 graphics. The keyboard even lights up! The screen uses LED, not LCD

count me for MBP

Re: MBP vs. Asus G1s vs. IFL90
The Macbook Pros are really good! A lot of people under estimate it's specs. They have santa rosa, and they also have dx 10 graphics. What more could you want besides their back lit keyboard and 17" LED screen that is quite slim!

Re: MBP vs. Asus G1s vs. IFL90
The 17" does not have a LED screen - only the 15" does.
Also, the 15" is much more durable - I'd definitely go for the 15" rather than the 17" (which, in fact, I did).
