Question:
high school student
I found the template a bit long so...
INTRO
*Budget= Max 2600, ideally less than 2400
*Screen= around 15"
*to be bought in Australia
*i want a decent brand, but not all the crap trial software
*i want to be able to take it to friends houses and sometimes to school
*it should be stylish, preferably light and slim as well
SPECS: (im guessing here, but i want a fast laptop with decent graphics)
t7300 2ghz core2duo
2gb ram
8600gt graphics 256mb
min 100GB HDD
802.11n wireless
webcam and mic would be good, as well as bluetooth
OPTIONS:
Dell inspiron 1520
+: good value for money, does everything i want, i can upgrade battery and screen and still pay less than the acer
-: doesnt look very nice from photos, seems a bit bulky
Acer 5920
+: cool design - looks nice, extra features- eg. tv tuner, surround sound, card reader
-: screen res only 1280x800
Macbook pro 15inch
+: best design of all, good software
-: only 128mb graphics; need to get home premium from somewhere
Please tell me if there are any other options with similar specs? Design is actually pretty important to me, so if the acer's screen is, in your opinion, of a high enough resolution ill probably get that one

Re: high school student
If the motto of your life is "the hell quality, go quantity", then the Acer is your first friend. And, I think that there is somehitng like a general consensus in here that the Acer looks like a toilet seat... if you think that's nice, then fine but be sure you check it out in person first.
The Dell also is a bit overpriced in your country, since that's a cheap budget notebook and the design isn't great and yes it's bulky.
Now, I would suggest the Asus V1s, it's a high quality notebook, nice design, relatively thin and light for a 15.4"...
The post below is from another AUS member of this forum.
If you decide to take my advice you will be the fourth Australian NBR member to do what i'm telling you.
Excalibur PC has the V1s for 1850, With around $100 USD for shipping, This workes out to roughly 2300 AUD, Ontop of that you will pay ~250 in Customs and processing fees. I bought the Dell 1520 and returned it because it was very heavy, felt poorly built, The screen was incredibly grainy, and it felt heavy. I went with the V1s because it was well priced, Fairly light, Had business class features, and came with a 2 year international warranty as standard. It comes with Vista Business. If you need help with customs I can direct you to the correct forms to put through. Shame you didnt decide to do this last week, Our dollar was at almost 88US cents, now its about 85. You can take a look at the V1s here http://www.excaliberpc.com/ASUS_V1S-...id-580877.html
I think you would be _alot_ happier with the V1s than with the 1520. If you do decide for whatever reason to go with the Dell, if your a student you can get 5% off through the EPP discount. Im now going to take some more pain killers, Abdominal surgery is really aweful.
Oh the release date for the V1s is expected to be mid August.

(im from australia)
I recommend the following notebooks-
Sager NP2090- Get it off: http://p4laptops.com.au/order-fl90-special1.htm- renamed as a metbox, ignore that
Asus V1s- http://www.betterit.com.au/scripts/p...dproduct=93642
Sexy, with a very good build
Unlike what 'Dreamer' reccomends, buying the v1s from within australia- with a bit of haggling techniques will save you money and shorten the shipping times........................

Well, I'm not from AUS, so... buy it from wherever you think it's best for you. And, I didn't know that it's already available in your country... the post above it just from another australian...

Re: high school student
Yeah... Don't buy most Asus's from Australia (at least not yet). And why does that Australian spec V1S have the T7300?
If you're going for a lower budget (remember the MBP even with education discount is $2599) try the F3SV - spec sold in Australia (around $2000-$2100 check out www.staticice.com.au):
T7500
2GB RAM
8600GS
200GB 4200RPM
WXGA
I'm recently a very unsatisfied, jerked around Dell customer, so I wouldn't recommend them - but you can try if you want.
If you're set on a Compal/SagerNP2090/Metabox - whatever the hell you like to call it, Compal IFL-90 base - the cheapest in Australia (I think) would be to get the Zepto 3415W (www.zepto.com).

I'll +1 the MacBook Pro, I got one a week ago or so and I'm loving every minute of it. If you can spend a little more you could get the 2.4Ghz 15'', that one comes with 256MB VRAM.
