Question:
dell e1505/hp dv6500/sony fz ?
I'm looking for a laptop to use for school, but I'd also like to be able to play games on it. I have a budget of ~ $2000, and have been mainly looking at the computers listed in the title.
They all have comparable stats, with the only difference being the graphics cards. The dell has an x1400, the hp has an 8400m gs, and the sony has an 8400m gt.
Will these be able to play new games? And how does the dell e1520 compare to these?
Thanks!
\any other suggestions are always welcome

Asus G1S, Macbook Pro if you want pure gaming performance and want to go for a reputed brandname. Compal IFL90, Sages/Clevo if you want performance but are willing to settle for slightly bland looks and not so known brands (though excellent quality). Also, Asus C90 can be a good choice if you want to build your own laptop :)

Re: dell e1505/hp dv6500/sony fz ?
Forgive my ignorance, this is probably a very stupid question. But I haven't looked at computers in 4 years, and have never looked for a laptop before. Brands like Dell, HP, and Sony are ones that I recognize, and after two desktops that I built myself, I'd like a very reliable, well-known brand. My question (the ignorant one) is about Asus. I've read a lot on these boards about them, particularly the G1 and G1S, but I don't know much about Asus. Are they a reliable company? How do they compare to Dell and Sony?
Thanks.

If you look inside a desktop computer, chances are that you are using an ASUS motherboard, they've been king of motherboards for the past half a decade, and for good reason.
ASUS is not as well known in the notebook department, but if you talk to desktop enthusiasts, they often are raving about ASUS, and this has also transferred to the notebook enthusiasts as well in the past year or two. Not only do they manufacture their own notebooks and parts, they control it, so they control the quality, quantity and management. Companies like Dell, Sony, Apple, etc. contract 3rd party companies like ASUS, Compal, Arima, etc. to build them notebooks. For instance, the Macbook is designed by Apple, but ASUS and Quanta produces them, same goes for all notebooks from large brands such as Dell, they don't make it.

most companies purchase parts from other places, for example they may purchase their CPU from intel, and their GPU from Nvidia. For the most of the parts, it's like that. Basically, they just design and put it together.
