Re: Seeking for a notebook
My choice would be the ThinkPad T42/43 especially if you don't want the glossy screen. TPs DVD burners aren't that great, you may want to consider an external. I would also look at an Asus Z71v, Acer TravelMate 3204, and HP dv1000. Good Luck.

Do these notebooks which come with DVDRW also burn CDs also?
Answer:
Re: Seeking for a notebook
The ThinkPad in a configuration you can afford comes with a combo drive. They are the best built notebooks and have first rate service. You can then buy a burner and put it in an external case using the usb port. That is what I have. TP burners are slow and expensive a slim external is a better choice in my opinion. You might be able to find a new older T41 on ebay. Just make sure you buy from a reputable seller. The Asus and HP can be configured with DVD burner which will burn CDs. The Asus here:

The HP here:

I would get the 12 cell battery on the HP. It makes it somewhat heavier, but it has very good battery life. Acers only come preconfigured. The 3204 has a DVD burner:

Re: Seeking for a notebook
I'll second the recommendation for the IBMs, they really are wonderfully built machines, and if I could afford one with the specs I want I would buy it in a heartbeat. That said they do cost a bit more, and if you want to spend a bit less you might look at HPs business class notebooks, most of them are also quite well built and tend to run a bit less than the IBMs. The new nx6125 seems to be a fairly solid machine, and reviews have it clocking around 3 1/2 hours on the battery.

Re: Seeking for a notebook
Do all the DVD burners...in notebooks in desktops...do all of them which are bought in stores burn CD's? My friend said some of them do but some of them dont so I was wondering.
Answer:
Re: Seeking for a notebook
Yes, if it is a dvd burner it will burn CDs. Perhaps your friend was confused with a CDRW/DVD combo drive which will burn CDs but only read DVDs.

Re: Seeking for a notebook
The Fujitsu s6231, but it will be a little north of your budget with a DVD burner. Very well built, but has glossy screen. Three year warranty as well.
