Re: laptop suggestions
I think the L2000 is right up your ally. Its basicly a top end V2000z with a much better color scheme. If you get the 12 cell battery you can get 5 hours on one charge and its still less then 6 lbs. Its got a nice 14 in widescreen and the new AMD Turion chips.

I'd agree on the Compaq v2000 being a good choice as well. You will only get the Z63a for under $1400 if you already have a copy of XP. Good Luck.

Re: laptop suggestions
I configured as such:
1.73ghz pentium M mobile centrino
512mb (512mbx1) DDR2
40gb Hitachi 7200rpm
WiFi a/b/g intel mini -pci Internal 54mbps 5 ghz
Windows XP Home
8x DVD+/-RW DL
2yr warranty
Price: $1401.
I personally would get the optical battery, but if you don't think you'll need the extra battery life it is probably not worth it. I chose the DVD burner cause they are nice for backups and if it some point in the future you decide you would like one, you'll have to buy a whole new unit as oppossed to a $50 upgrade. I opted for the the 7200RPM drive. The performance gain going from 4200 to 5400 is more pronounced than 5400 to 7200, but it is noticeable at least to me. It doesn't look like you'll need lots of space, but I could be wrong. I wouldn't get anything past two years of warranty. If you have a hardware failure it is most likely going to happen in the first year. I'm not saying something can't happen, but it is more likely you'll drop it or have it stolen. If the extra warranty gives you piece of mind, it may be worth it. Good Luck.

Re: laptop suggestions
this will be my first laptop so i dont really no if 40gb is enough for me or not. I have around 10gb of music other than that i dont no how much I would use. but if i was going to go for 7200rpm i think i would get the 60gb to be safe.
