Asus Z70V vs Quanta KN1-PM help!!

Question:
Asus Z70V vs Quanta KN1-PM help!!
I've been at great pain trying to decide between the two. They are both recent releases and are both sold by ISTNC.. although the Z70V will allow me more options with other resellers. So far I found only 2 places selling the Quanta.
Both are pretty light and thin compared to other contemporaries, and are both alot better looking than the Z71V and DL70, etc. Asus being a popular brand and a good builder of laptops, and Quanta being the world's largest ODM and is often contracted to make Sony, Apple, HP, etc. However both don't have SATA compatibility so that is a downer
at the same configuration.. 1.73ghz, 1 gig ram, 60gb 5400 HD, and a dvd burner (but no windows).. they are roughly similar in price, as shown below in my list of pros and cons i found so far.
Asus Z70V (about $1562 at that config, but i think it'd be $1540 at geared2play)
http://istnc.com/store/products.php?cat=111
Pros:
-Carbon Fiber Chassis
-Light weight, looks good
-Probably will have lots of users, thus alot of support on the forums
-Good WSXGA screen
-good speakers, Azalia with 4 speakers, 2 in front 2 on lcd
-battery life seems to be 4, and up to 4 and a half with lights dimmed down
Cons:
-Vent is on the right rather than left, thus will probably feel heat blowing on my hand and mouse
-only X600 with 64mb vram, although it can allocate more ram elsewhere.
------------------------------------------------
Quanta KN1-PM (about $1539 at that config)
http://istnc.com/store/products.php?cat=96
Pros:
-despite appearance, measurements done by ISTNC makes it rather thin, infact slightly thinner than the Z71V
-has an MXM Nvidia Go 6600 with 128mb dedicated VRAM, because it is mxm, perhaps there is room for upgrade in the future?
-vent is on the left side
-it seems that the HD is under the touchpad, which is better than having it under the palm rest.
-battery life is about 3:45h with brightness on and modest uses
Cons:
-only WXGA screen, although WSXGA will come out in August (not sure if I can wait that long)
-Speakers seem to be just 2 in front and uses the regular AC97 rather than Azalia.
-----------------------------
Uses: probably will become my desktop replacement while at the same time needs to be light and mobile enough to carry around on the airplane, to friends house, or work/school. Intend to play Battlefield 2 on it.
Answer: I don't know much about Quanta, but I'd have to think support would be a concern with them. At least Asus has been in the game for awhile now and has a more established service and repair network...if you're only finding the Quanta at two sites it's likely you'll have very few options for places to ship the notebook to if something were to go wrong.
I dunno, specs and price are all very close, at the end of the day I'd choose the Asus for, as you say, more support in the forums and from resellers/manufacturers/repair centers, SXGA is a boon to have...it lets you see so much more, so I'd definitely want that. The vent on the right side is a bit of a shame, but I tend to use my mouse far enough away that it would negligible in terms of feeling the air coming out and you can do things to keep the notebook cool. It doesn't sound like you're a huge gamer, just now and again, i think the x600 with 64MB would be okay for you.
ahh, if only choices were always clear [^]

Answer: I've never heard of Quanta before, and I'm sure not many people have either. I would get the Asus, just for the support issues - if you ever have any problems with it, you know where to go!

Answer:
Quanta is *THE* largest ODM of laptop in the world, followed by Compal. They make IBM Thinkpads(future uncertain due to Leveno), Dell Inspirons and Latitudes, they have been making ALL of HP/Compaq for the past 3 years (in fact, they were credited with turning HP/Compaq's laptop operation around from the brink of bankrupcy), they claim to have done at least 40% of Apple iBook's designwork. If you own an IBM/Dell/Compaq/HP/Sony, it's almost a sure thing that Quanta built it, and they essentially ran off assembly lines next to each other -- how's that for brand loyalty? [;)]

Answer: I have nothing against quanta. I do know asus. I know there is no tighter relationship between deal and manufacturer like asus has with their dealers. If you are looking for good support, part availability, quick rma, dependeable product, dedicated forum support, knowledgeble and dedicated resellers,,,,,Asus dealers got all those covered. quanta has good product i am sure but it just doesnt look like they can win against asus in the odm race not including their contracts with the big names. This is also evident by their lack of manufacturer intervention. Their interests lies with their big name customers not the comparatively little custom market that we have seen explode over the last few years. Go with asus and their preffered partners found on their where to buy list. You will not be dissapointed.
