Question:
Asus V6V vs Acer Ferrari 4000
Hey again, thanks for the help previously for narrowing my notebook search down to a few ;) I found that these two fit what I'm looking for, but now it really comes down to the specifics.. beyond asthetics, I can't decide which one to go with, and price really isn't an issue because they're nearly the same.
Here's what I posted before :
General Usage
What will you be using the notebook mainly for? Will you be using it to play games? Will you be using it for word processing / general productivity? etc.
I am interested in design, so I will need a computer that can handle the slew of adobe programs (photoshop, illustrator, macromedia flash, etc)
There's the possibility of animation and movie editing, so I need a computer that can handle those as well. Also, light gaming would be a plus but not a requirement as I do have a desktop for that.
Are you looking more at a very small notebook, a standard notebook, or a large desktop replacement?
small to standard -- it needs to be somewhat portable for airplanes / going to my job every day by metro (internship)
Will you be carrying the notebook around a lot or be keeping it stationary most of the time?
carrying it a lot.
How important is battery life to you?
Somewhat -- 3.5+ hours would be optimal
How long do you intend on using this laptop?
through part of college, so 2+ years
Features
Do you need lots of hard drive space?
60 GB + would be nice
Will you be burning DVD's or just CD's?
probably both ~ I could live without a DVD burner though.
Do you tend to work with a lot of applications at once?
No. However, I'm used to having a lot of Ram, so I definitely want 512+
Graphics & Display
How big would you like your screen to be? Do you care if it's widescreen or not?
I don't care
Are you willing to pay more for premium screens enhanced by XBRITE, Crystal View, or Bright View? (Go to the bottom of this post for an explanation)
yes
(If applicable) Will you be playing casual games or the latest games?
wouldn't hurt to be able to play the latest ;p but not a requirement
(If applicable) Will you be doing work in a 3D modeling program like 3D Studio Max or Maya?
very possibly. heh.
Miscellaneous
Do you care if your notebook looks good or not?
YES. ASTHETICS mean so much to me!
Are there particular brands you prefer or won't buy from?
no
How much are you willing to pay for this notebook?
up to $2000
Thanks again for the help! any opinins you have on the stability, graphics, functionality, layout, screen, customer service, etc would be greeatly appreciated so I can choose one of these ;)

I think the High Res in the v6v would be great for you.
I think irght now, Asus has a 3year warranty promotion, while the Acer only have 1 year included.
But the Ferrari has a superior GPU, and it seems you have a chance of needing that.
I'd say the v6v

I know you want to decide between the V6 and the ferrari, but I'll throw in the new Z70V. It's pretty aesthically pleasing, bluetooth, and X700. I dont need a laptop yet, so I'm waiting and saving up for one. :asus:

It does seem nice, and it is quite a bit cheaper at ~$1500. What is it lacking compared to the other two (other than harddrive capacity) ? this is so hard ;p

Re: Asus V6V vs Acer Ferrari 4000
Acer Ferrari 4000 is the better choice...superior GPU than the Asus and the chassis is supposed to be super stiff since it is made of Carbon fibre where as the Asus is made of bits of Aluminium & plastic.
The Turion is also a 64 bit processor so future needs are also met.

Re: Asus V6V vs Acer Ferrari 4000
Well the WHOLE chassis isnt carbon fiber, else the price of the notebook would skyrocketed...What does it lack? well probably the heat some people are complaining about for the V6. It is also elegant and doesnt have a "steal me" kind of laptop. It has a DVI out instead of the VGA out and it also has 128MB on the video card. The z70v support 2 battery (up to 8 hrs); of course that all depend on what your doing. Buying something will always be hard unless you need it now....Attractiveness; check. Price; check. Superior Video; check. Mission accomplish! :asus:

well the Asus Z70v does seem nice, but can you recommend any good customization sites? I definitely need more than 40g hard drive space, and there are some other areas which I'd like to tweak... My budget IS ~$2000 so I'd like to make the most of my laptop ;p

www.proportable.com
www.istnc.com
www.geared2play.com
lots of resellers in the Asus Forums!
edit:
the v6v has a x600 which is a good GPU :asus:
The Acer Ferrari has a x700 which is much better :amd64-2:
The z70v WILL have a x700, in August or so :asus:
The z71v has a 6600 Go, which is on par with the x700 :asus:
