Sound Card in Thinkpads

Question:
Sound Card in Thinkpads
I was wondering what type of sound is integrated with the Lenovo Thinkpads, specifically the T60 and 61 series. Is it Intel High Definition Audio, or something else. I wanted to know because I was thinking of getting a Lenovo and then hooking up a pretty nice external speaker system to it, and I didn't want the sound to be skippy or scratchy through the external speakers. Thanks in advance.

As far as I can tell, it is Intel High Definition Audio, AD1984HD codec.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I didn't want to start one with overlapping information.
How does one connect a 5.1 speaker system to a t61? My guess is some sort of converter that can take the 3 chords from the 5.1 speakers and connect them to the headphone output.
Is the integrated audio on the t61 good quality through 5.1 speakers or should I just look into a USB or PCMIA sound card (I just need to play music and movies, nothing fancy)?
thanks in advance,

I there is no way to connect 5.1 system. Too few wires at the output :)
Does T60, T61 audio plugs support reconfiguration? E.g. that mic. plug could become an output for back speakers?

Re: Sound Card in Thinkpads
Can't do 5.1 directly from the laptop. Onboard sound does not support it, plus the connectors are not there.
Need to use an add-in sound card that supports 5.1 and has the ability to connect the 5 speakers. One example would be Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook plus the optional Speaker Docking Module to get the connectors for the 5.1.

How is the sound out of the built in soundcard? My old HP DV9000t has a built in Conexant HD sound card. Under Vista, the sound is very good. How does the T60/T61 compare?
