New Inspiron already a hit?

Question:
New Inspiron already a hit?
I'm not so sure Dell is going to do any additional July 4 promos now. With orders coming in, leadtimes are already moving out impressively. Anyone buying a 1720 with True Life (not anti-glare) screen is now getting a message explaining choosing that screen will result in a shipping delay due to shortage.

Just take a look around: every other post in the Dell forum is about the new Inspirons.
I dunno. I'm just glad my D630 shipped :D

...isn't it obvious?

Just look at the most popular laptops list, dell's holding the first 3 places. Dell finally got rid of the ugly white bumpers on the Inspiron. So i guess thats the reason its a hit.

Yep- Something's going on, cuz i can barely move around the Dell site now which could mean they're just swamped with shoppers. dunno... thought I was just having network problems but then noticed going to any other website I can navigate super fast as usual...

Re: New Inspiron already a hit?
I noticed they decreased the $292 discount on DellUniversity on the far-right Inspiron to $253, so that with the percent-based student discount the cost of the base config at DellU is within $1 of that at regular Dell. Kind of disappointing; that's almost $40 and it does cut into the discount. Combined with no more discount for choosing to not get a webcam, that's almost $70 in price increases in the past two days.
I wouldn't be surprised if customer demand had something to do with this...since they're already running late on ship dates, they probably figured they might as well up the cost a little.

I noticed that as well. I configured the same system I ordered yesterday and the price came out to about $70 more or more.

Hmm, you don't think that prices will rise by July 4th do you? Or do you advise ordering asap?

Re: New Inspiron already a hit?
I really doubt they'll rise again. Maybe the Free Shipping disappearing, but nothing more than that (and last time it disappeared it came back in about a day).
My plan is to purchase on the Fourth of July. If Dell follows precedent, they'll have a Fourth of July sale, and there'll be pretty good deals then. And if the prices are cheaper later on by $50 or more within 30 days, Dell will give you the difference (don't have a link for that at the moment).
I'm hoping the 4th of July sale does start on the actual 4th, though - it'd be rather silly if they made it a weekend sale starting on the 6th (I hear it's usually a weekend sale - kind of hard with the holiday being Wednesday this year).
Here's hoping for good deals on the Fourth!
