The options are adjusted based on current inventory levels. You'd save yourself $200 by buying aftermarket ram anyway.........

I always prefer buy all my notebooks with all things from factory, when you put aftermarket things never be the same :( I understand, as you don't want to be concerned with compatibility and troubleshooting of the non-factory items. However for me, i've had little cause for concern. When I bought my newest laptop a few weeks ago, I ordered it with the smallest hard drive and minimum memory. When it arrived, I swapped in the new aftermarket parts I bought and everything has been fine.
Granted if the unit had to go to HP for warranty work, I'd have to put the original parts back in. Luckily that has not happened yet on any of my machines.............

well that is up to you, HP and others rely on ppl like you who dont want to try their best to save themselves money. you could easily check this site or even ask ppl here what memory they've upgraded and used and save yourself alot of wasted cash. there are also many manufacturers whose sites can tell you which RAM is compatible with your system.
For RAM, HP should not void you warranty if you change or upgrade it. the same should be applied to the hard drive but you find some HP reps telling you that it will but that is probably due to ignorance or the fact that they want you to buy their overpriced upgrades rather than a DIY that saves you a bundle.

The factory RAM in all HP notebooks is Nanya brand.
I'm using the Crucial 4GB kit in my dv9500t. I had memtest86 running for 10 hours straight with 0 errors. Crucial makes very stable high-quality memory.

The factory RAM in all HP notebooks is Nanya brand. Not necessarily. I have a Micron on one, a Nanya on another, and Samsung too. It depends on what they can source at any given production run.
