Question:
Gateway launches new M / T lines of laptops
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=8023
From the looks of it everybody now seems to be moving to more thinner designs like the M1330 / SZ series.
Definitely looks nicer than the older Gateways... and the option of the 1920x1200 15.4" display... to my knowledge there are very few brands that have this! now if only they had nVidia instead of ATi (personal preference, lol)

sweet! does the HD 2400 XT have preformance like the ddr2 version of the 8600gt? If it does this will be my choice over a dell

Re: Gateway launches new M / T lines of laptops
I honestly dont know - I have heard that the 2400XT has better video capabilities in terms of handling high definition content (with the 2600XT) vs the 2800, which is odd. I dont know if that relates to the 8600GT though.
I'd stick with the Dell... I dont remember / dont think that Engadget said that the Gateways use LED screens... I believe that Dell's Precision M4300 (uses the older chassis of the M65s but uses newer technologies like Santa Rosa) does have the WUXGA (1920x1200) display... although dont know if that is LED backlit though)...

Yea I don't know tho because the dells are ugly compared to these gateways in my opinion. I think I'll wait and see the performance of this video card before i decide.

wow, another laptop to look forward to... does anyone know if HD 2400 XT is better then 8400 GS? I have DV2500T (returning) that cannot handle 1080p content very well.

Re: Gateway launches new M / T lines of laptops
Hmm thats weird - the 2500T review posted here a day or two ago says it handles HD content pretty well o.0...

possibly at screen resolution, but I've tried hooking it up to my 1080p Sharp LCD and no luck, choppy playback on HD stations. Drivers, codecs tried everything... and believe me I've dealt with this before on my HP z552 DIgital ENtertinament center. I've tried 2 graphics card 7100GS & 7300GS, in the end 7600GS w/ HDMI/HDCP did its magic and chopiness went away. Of course I realized that it's also has to do with video memory (not shared crap) and DV2500 8400GS has 64MB (as far as I remember) and it's just not enough.

Oh, sorry to hear that. I thought that the 2500T would be the perfect laptop that woudl be for someone that wants multimedia but also flexibility for high definition

I really hoped to replace my large and loud DEC with a laptop size Media Center. Hoping this 14" Gateway might do the trick. Otherwise, next step would be Acer 15" Gemstone.

hmm i wouldn't get the Gemstone. I've seen it in person at a Circuit City... doesn't work that great.
I remember the HP Digital Entertainment Centers ... dont get me wrong the concept was great but it was poorly implemented.
Another thing you may want to consider is HP's new line... its an all in one... I totally forget the model name but they do have an all in one desktop with a 19" widescreen.
