Question:
Just got my Vostro 1500
Well, I ordered my Vostro last Wednesday and just got it, a day before the expected delivery date.
Too bad I can't open it yet :(. My boyfriend is still at work and I'm not opening the box until I get over to his house so we can do it together. He helped me tons with purchasing this laptop and it should be a shared experience :P. I did open the box with the free carry case and I quite like it. Hopefully pics and thoughts coming this week.

Thanks, guys :). Move to Australia for a week, get it, and then move back.
Ok some initial observations.
- It doesn't appeal to the eye as much as the HP Pavilion I bought and refunded before.
- It isn't as huge as I expected, not absolutely massive.
- The 9 cell battery does stick out, but not enough for me to care.
- The keyboard is a pure pleasure to use, I'm also absolutely in love with the track pad.
- The battery does NOT wobble on mine
- The latch to open the monitor is plastic and seems a bit cheap, but nothing to fuss over.
- I love the blue backlight on the media buttons at the front.
- Very nice, relatively fast initial start-up, way faster than the previous HP, which took 20 minutes to set up the first time.
- The lid does attract fingerprints easily.
- I read that the NVidia GeForce 8600M GT has 256mb dedicated memory and can go up to 512mb in total...I don't know if I misunderstood this, but mine has 1gb total graphics memory.
- Played Doom 3 on highest possible settings, no clearly visible lag. When first loading up instances, there's a TINY bit. My boyfriend and I weren't sure if it was his crappy mouse or if it was lag - turned out to be barely perceptible lag, not worth fussing over. He thinks it's cause together Vista and the graphics card only leave me about 700mb of ram out of 2gb.
Gotta go, more to come later.

My T60 has plastic latches so it's no big deal to me. I'm very impressed with the Vostro so far.

I am returning my vostro. BTW dell has awful grainy/blurry lcd screens. After seeing a sony vaio I can't see this screen. It looks dull and the colors are not evenly saturated.

How come you're returning it? Is it just the screen or did you have any other problems with it?

^^ Darkday answered ur qs. The vostro looks pretty huge. It's thicker and heavier than my old inspiron 2650. But performance is really good. The touchpad is much more comfortable than the new hp dv 6500t and sony vaio FZ.
I thought of getting a vostro again, but I am scared that I will get a grainy lcd again.
