Question:
What desktop should I buy?
I know I am a sinner in not just buying components on newegg or tigerdirect but - - -
Lets just say I wanted to buy a desktop. Budget is $3,000. If possible, financing/credit card is needed. I was just wondering who should i buy for if I had the ability and who should I stay away from?
Here is a system I am eyeing on:
Processor: Intel C2D E6600 2.4GHz, 4MB L2, 1048FSB
Memory: 2GB DDR2-667 Corsair
Hard Drive: 250GB 7,200 Seagate
Video Card: nVidia 8800 GTX 768MB
Optical Drive 1:48x Combo
Opical Drive 2:16x DVD+/-RW
Monitor: 22' LCD Monitor (I don't know who it is exactly, I think it is one of the HPs)
Sound Card: Sound Blaster XtremeMusic
Headphones: EarForce HPA2
Keyboard: Saitek 104-Key Eclipse
Mouse: RAZER Diamondback Salamander
Warranty: 3 Years
Grand Total Before Tax and Shipping: $2,981.93
Not bad? Should I grab it? What do you think?

All of them, cause they are all overpriced, sinner?
Buy from newegg, or you'll be coming back to repent to me sinner for what you have done.
Father desktop says, stay away from the evil companies. They offer what seems like a free ride, a quick fix, but in the end you have heartache, troubles, nightmares.
Put it together yourself and your go to the heaven of computing!
Sorry, you asked for it.
I'm hoping this doesn't offend anyone.

Updated! Sorry Zellio if I offend you. I just don't have the patience anymore to build computers. Me and electricity have a real bad history. Mechanical I do, electricial I do not.
Check out my orig post for what system I have some view on.
But what is interesting...I went to go build a mirror system with newegg. Same stuff, just a beefed up power supply in the end from new egg I get
$2,529.50 before taxes and shipping. And I didn't include all of the necessary wires I have to do... $200 for someone to build my computer and a warranty for 3 years? Oh come on...That deal is sweet. What do you think?

Father desktop says wise choice.
As an example, look on this page for a list of what it would cost for you to buy for $2000 at a normal place:

Re: What desktop should I buy?
I could build that computer at Newegg for $1800
Do you want to pay another company $1800 for parts and $1200 for labor? That doesn't really make any sense to me. Buy components and build your own desktop. It's not hard at all. It's like using expensive Legos. Things fit into slots, other things need to be screwed on, but some things also snap in place.

Re: What desktop should I buy?
Yeah, I got about $1900 on newegg. "wires" for stuff does not cost $200:confused: . I'm not sure what wires there are to buy? All your cables come with the motherboard and the PSU. Seriously save some big time money and build your own. I built my first PC a month ago (see sig) everything came out great on the first try. Just make sure you have a large workspace with solid flooring under you (NO carpet) and touch your case before your components ( ). Like mentioned before its like expensive legos. Except they don't crumble quite as easily when your brother gets a hold of them, well maybe they do:eek: . Either way, Desktop building is easy enough and can be pretty fun. Just buy a high quality case to go with your high quality parts.
About the warranty, Building your own means you can troubleshoot with guys like us because you have well known components, not, "uhhh, I can't see a model number, but theres a big black circle with some Chinese markings." And if a part does fail it is covered by its own warranty. Plus with all the money you save, you can afford to replace or upgrade parts for a couple years. Anywhoo, I'm done rambling, just build the PC and if you have problems, we can help you out:) .

Exactly. The entire computer doesn't have a warranty, but each individual part has a warranty attached to it. Most warranties last up to 3 years, and they cover all the wear and tear of ordinary usage!

Re: What desktop should I buy?
With the money you save by building it yourself, you can afford to buy another part if one is broken.
Example, if HDD is busted. Well, since u build it urself and saved $1000+, I think you could spend $100 to buy a new HDD.
If you buy name brand stuff, it'll less likely break. Anyways, over the long run, you'll be happier :). BTW, building a new PC is easier than riding a bike. Just buy all your parts and then just putting it together (like legos). If you need help, then there are the thousands of people on this forum to help.

Just don't do what the guy in my sig did. That would be stupid :p
It would be akin to cutting off the back wheel of the bike and expecting it to do something.

Look at the computer in the link on my post... with a few mods, it could be just what you wanted.
