Question:
Could I get this computer for around $1000 by Christmas time?
Take into account there will probably be at least $100 off with coupons, hopefully free shipping and there will probably be tax.
If it won't be available for $1000 please tell me where to cut costs or where prices won't budge by xmas.

If I were to buy it right now I could cut $50 from downgrading the processor to 1.86ghz, the vid card from 256mb to 128mb (not a gamer, but multimedia processing) ($100) and maybe $40 by just going with one DVD/RW drive (do I even need two?)

Building, if you are willing to take the time/and have the time, is very rewarding and not as difficult as you think.
The nice thing about building is you can get exactly what you want and you save a substantial bit of money. You may want to look into it. If you do, check out Fren's sticky at the top of this forum, it is a good place to start!

Dell seems to have coupons a lot on laptops. I haven't looked at desktops so much, but I would imagine it would be the same. When school starts back up in the fall is usually when the best coupons are around. You may want to keep your eye out for coupons when mid-August rolls around.
I usually just google "Dell Coupons" to see what is currently available, you may want to give that a shot.

As mark said, Dell regularly release coupons on laptops and I've seen coupons on desktops. You should be able to do a google search and find out quickly if the coupons exist. As for Dell's pricing schemes, that model will be cheaper by Christmas but who knows by how much.
