Looking for some advice getting Socket 478 Motherboard

Question:
Looking for some advice getting Socket 478 Motherboard
Hey everyone, it seems that I broke my motherboard, the Asus P4P800-E deluxe.
I was upgrading my bios, I don't even know why, maybe I was on crack... Anyways, it flashed successfully but when it rebooted, the bios won't load and it would hang. However the power would turn on and the fans and stuff would appear to be working.
So here's my dillema, I want to hold out for another 2 years to upgrade my desktop, since direct x10 is going to be big soon, not right now though so I have to find a motherboard replacement.
I am stumped in choosing the ASUS P4P800SE mobo (my first mobo which broke) or the ASUS P4S800D-X which is cheaper than the P4P800SE by about 30 bucks.
For anyone that knows, what is the performance difference between these two motherboards? As I've said, I want this to hold out for at least 2 years, (although it seems like I'm breaking a motherboard yearly now...) so performance must be at least adequate by today's standard. I know that they are based on different chipsets and that the P4P800se is the faster one, but does the P4S800D come close to the P4P800se? Since I break my motherboards so fast I don't know if I want to spend more money to get the P4P800se.
With my newly deceased P4P800-E mobo, I get the following scores from Everest:
CPU queen - 1985
CPU photo - 10456
CPU Zlib - 12515
FPU Julia - 2135
FPU Mandel - 2953
FPU SinJulia - 1333
Memory read - 6105
Memory write - 4231
Memory copy - 4597
Memory Latency - 73.3ns
So if someone with a newer system with everest can compare their scores to mine that would be great, because I want to know how my old system stacks up against the new ones. Detailed description of my rig can be found under my specs.
I'm considering getting cheaper motherboards because I'm going to upgrade eventually and don't want to spend much more money on this system.
The hardest thing now is to actually obtain socket 478 motherboards, they're practically ancient now!! Although I don't want to go with ASUS boards again (broke 2 of em now ) I don't have a choice because they're the only ones out there!
I live in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada so if anyone living around that area know of places selling socket 478 motherboards other than Asus please tell me.

Ooh! I recently fried my P4P800-E Deluxe and had to replace it with a P4P800SE. If you don't use firewire and have a PCI sound card (or don't use more than 2.1 channel audio) you'll never know the difference. Asus really does make good mobos, unfortunately mobos are really easy to kill with just a minor lapse in judgement.

Yeah, the P4P800se was my first motherboard and it was great. I thought that the P4P800-E would offer some improvement but I guess it didn't really.
How much was your P4P800se dragon? The price that I can find it at is around $110 Canadian.

I still have my P4C800-E and still running.

Have you tried resetting the CMOS yet? Don't pronounce the victim dead if it's only comatose. ;)
I'd updated the BIOS on my buddy's motherboard and it went bad and did the same thing your motherboard has. I reset the CMOS and then BAM! it worked fine.

I think at the time it was about $95-100(US). I remember looking online to find a replacement P4P800-E deluxe and the prices had actually gone up by $20-30 on the few sites I could find them from when I originally purchased mine in 2004.

I tried reseting the cmos, there was a part in the manual that told me to reset some jumper or something from 1-2 position to 2-3 position and that would clear the cmos. It worked fine the first time I did that, but the computer still wouldn't boot to windows. And when I shut my comp down and start up again, the computer would just freeze up. I think I corrupted my bios chip or something.

You know you're supposed to leave the jumper in 2-3 position for a bit, right? I think the manual says 15 seconds, but I usually set it and walk away for a little bit.

OMFG! I CANT BELIEVE THIS!
Dragonesse u were right! I left it on for longer and voila! It worked!!!!
I'm gonna test this for a while longer
You may have saved me from spending 140 bucks!
EDIT: Nevermind, it still didn't work. I got into windows, but because I had reverted back to the bios 1.001 I updated the bios to 1.009 (using the asus update software this time) and it doesn't work now.
EDIT2:Ok, I got it to work. This was the problem: There was an option in the bios in the CPU section that said Turbo start or soemthing. This is enabled by default which caused the whole system to freeze. I disabled it and now it works fine.

Hehe, glad to help. Unless there's some sort of major important update, I don't usually flash (or advise flashing) BIOS's. Seen one too many boards die in the process.
