Question:
Putting it together, IO plate help, mobo help, CPU/HS help.
Ok so I am putting together my new pc.
I got the Abit ip 35 pro mobo.
And an antec 900 case.
So I'm getting ready to put the mobo in the case. And I got all the standoffs in the right positions, antec gave me 9 total standoffs (the things you screw the mobo into to secure it in the case), and they are positioned perfectly, however antec only gave me 8 little red disks (to prevent short circuiting?), and 8 of the same type of screws, so I wasn't sure if I should simply use 8 identical screws and 8 red disks, or add an additional screw to secure it better. Maybe my case was missing a screw/disk.
Also my main question is about the IO plate for my mobo. I put it in however I wasn't paying attention when installing my mobo and it looks like some of the plyable metal bent the wrong way (ie it is blocking the ports). I don't know if I should take my mobo out and bend them the other way and put the mobo back in, or if I should cut (?) away the metal.
Some of the ports even have solid metal over them (it looks perforated though, like it is meant to come off). Maybe someone can tell me what to do. When looking at the installation instructions I see no information on this.
After I put in the mobo I'm going to plug in the CPU, clean the new CPU using AS cleaning (is this necessary?), clean the ultra120 extreme heat sink, and then put a tiny amount of AS5 on the heatsink and CPU, then spread it around quickly with my old (not needed) id (cleaned) and then put the HS on the CPU and attach it.
Should I attach the fan to the HS before I install the HS? (the Ultra-120 eXtreme 775 Heatsink can have an installed fan (which I am going to use)).
Thanks for the help. Please respond soon!

The screws shouldn't be a problem. The holes on the mobo are in the best place to not ground out the board. I wouldn't worry about the plastic. In my opinion, I would take out the mobo and get the IO just right before finalizing mobo placement. If this is a new cpu, I don't think you would need the AS cleaning solution. If it is necessary, I would attach the fan after the mobo, heatsink, and cpu are in the case. I hope this helps!

Ok, well I took the mobo out, fixed the IO plate and put the mobo back in. that thing sure is hard to situate, I hope I didn't damage it :/...
and I dropped my Q6600 from about 2.5 feet onto hard tile. It still had the back on it (to protect the pins) but the actual chip dropped :(((((.
Intels gay packaging made it near impossible to get out and then it dropped. It looks ok (of course) but it bounced a couple times.... I hope it is ok.
that really sucks.

Dont worry i doubt it is dead. The IHS is there so that idiots wont screw up as bad (Im sure we've all done stupid things lol). Iv done the same. $350 brand new E6600 dropped on the ground and i accidentally stepped on it -.-"". Talk about being stupid. Worked out fine. I really like how Intel has the pins on the mobo otherwise it would have been a disaster with the pins bent.
p.s. You can just use 8 screws. I would just to be safe. Make sure however that the out of the 9 holes the one that is not filled is on the bottom. You want more support up top since it is stressed more.

lol as fate would have it I had to remove my mobo again (this will be the third time I'll have to put it in).
I didn't put the backplate in for the HS. But I got the CPU finished. AS 5 applied, and the HS is on nice and good. I think things are turning out well, but we'll see when I actually test the thing out.
Now I'll put the HS fan in, then re install the mobo, then I'll install the RAM?

yup, or you could install the ram then put the mobo in the case. It's up to you.

heh mobo is already in, definatly not taking that thing out again, its heavy and those tiny little screws tend to need to go into places where big hands can't fit easy.
Also getting that stuff lined up takes some time. and I hope it doesn't damage the bottum of the mobo.
I'll do the ram now.
My fan (for the HS) has a 3 prong cord, but the place on my mobo has a 4 prong hookup.
Not sure what to do there.
Also the fan came with a wire set that has a 3 prong male end a 3 prong female end, and then a large 4 prong male end and a large 4 prong female end (the 4 prong ones look like ones from the PSU).
What is the additional wireset for?

Might be for the RPM controller. Just plug in the 3 pin into the motherboard. Look around for fan headers. Not sure if it is male or female but there is only 1 kind on the mobo lol so I doubt you will mess up. You will probably have to disable CPU fan check in the BIOs since that detects whether a fan is on the 4 pin.

Ok, ram installed, I hope I didn't damage it, it took a bit of force.
I have two 2 GB ram modules. I put one in Dim 1 and one in Dim 3.
now I'll try to figure out the rest of my stuff.
I got an OEM disk drive, maybe someone can help me figure out how it fits in.

the screw holes should line up.
