Question:
Confirmed: My New system
It is a done deal, I have started ordering parts for my new rig. I will be going with:
Gigabyte DS3 motherboard $118
Intel C2D E4300 $169
2x 1GB G. Skill DDR2 800 ram $155
Western Digital 250GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
EVGA 7900gs 256MB Video Card (upgrade through step up program later) $140
LG DVD +/- RW Drive $28
Lian Li PC-61 Case $90
Coolmax 500w PSU $50
Arctic Silver Thermal Paste $5
Windows Vista Home Premium $120 (builders pack*)
Samsung 19" LCD 4ms response time $180
*I was wondering if someone could tell me exactly what I can do with a "builders pack?" I know it can only be used on one system but does it install and restore the same as the retail version?
Finally, If you see any areas that need improvement speak up quickly!:D

A "builder's pack" is just a CD that Newegg ships to you, without the packaging. It's meant for system builders, so you can only use it on one machine. It's original equipment manufacturing, so it should work just as well as the retail version.
I think your system looks very good. You'll be very happy with performance. Perhaps you'd like to wait a month for DX10 cards to come out. I see you have an EVGA card for a step-up program, but keep in mind if you do step up to an 8600GTS or something, you will be graphics-card-less for up to 3 weeks (and since EVGA will be swamped with step-up requests with the release of DX10 cards, it may take longer). Can you wait a month or two? You'll save a lot of headaches, unless you feel like going to a local Best Buy and purchasing a temporary Geforce 7300GT or something.

Thanks for your input FREN. I actually already own a 7300 that I can use in my down time, hopefully not too long!:)
Edited so as not to double post.
All is calm. My ordering fury is over. I am hoping to receive my order from newegg by monday or tuesday. at that time expect a flurry of questions asking about every little detail. I am most concerned with initial startup and when/how/if I even have to load drivers for my OEM hard drive, OEM dvd drive and Retail 7900gs. If there is a walkthrough you could link me to I would really appreciate it -Vista help is especially welcome (I will also check one that I was linked to in another thread but I can use all the help I can get). Basically, I know how everything fits together inside the case, I'm just not sure when and how (software wise) to install it. I really appreciate your help!

Hooray, I got my case and ps today! I ordered the Lian-Li PC-61 black case. Even with my limited building experience I can say that this is a beautifully crafted case. the fit and finish is absolutely perfect. The only thing I've done so far is... completely take it apart. I wanted to become familiar with it before the rest of the hardware arrives.:D The PS installed in a breeze thanks to the removable rear bracket. I can't wait for tomorrow!
I'll update as parts arrive. I am taking pictures (although they are very crappy looking) to document my first build and I will hopefully post a DIY/review of it when its done.

Congrats, those specs are really great. And good videocard for now, maybe you will upgrade to DX 10 later.
And for the CPU, man you have to overclock that thing! Real overclock king that CPU!

Why don't you go with the e6300? Its only about $30 more, but thats just my opinion.

Re: Confirmed: My New system
Well, Everything went smoothly. I am writing from my new PC! The hardware install went perfectly as the Lian-Li case was a joy to work in. The only snag was the first time I powered on, the CPU fan did not initially start spinning. I nervously waited hoping it would start up as the CPU demanded and of course it did (BIG sigh of relief). Vista installed without any problems. The 7900GS is running Battlefield 2 flawlessly. I took a bunch of pictures that I will try to load soon. Thank you's go out to everybody who helped me out!:D
I have to benchmark this guy before OC begins... Jason you'll be hearing from me!:)

Nice! :) Glad to here things are working out for you. Please post you benches and pictures in here or a new thread. I want to see them as well. When I built my first PC, I had a problem with the CPU fan as well. My problem was that I plugged it into the wrong fan pins, which was fine because it just put it on high, but the mobo did not like seeing a fan connected to the CPU fan port! ;)

mark84: I was nervous about that fan. I stopped everything and hit up google. I found out the fan only turns on as the CPU needs it, since it was cold the fan didn't start up for a couple of minutes.:wideeyed: . Here is a link to my album:

Note* I meant to say 8800GTS (in my album)
Overall I am very pleased with everything. I can reach over and feel the case, it feels like a chilled glass of beer. the sound is acceptable for 4 80mm fans, CPU and PSU fans all running at once. I have played Battlefield 2 and Star Wars Battlefront, both at maxed settings.
Now, could someone tell me the best/easiest way to benchmark my system? So far all I've done is SuperPi:
2M = 1min 10sec
1M = 29sec
My old system (the gateway that was returned to fund this one) ran 2M @ 1min 58sec!
Thanks again!
