MSI P35 Platinum vs ABIT IP35 Pro

Question:
MSI P35 Platinum vs ABIT IP35 Pro
Which one would be better for my specs?
I ordered an QX6700, 2gb Crucial Ballistix PC2 8000 so far.
What mobo would be better for me until I upgrade to x38.
I read all the reviews online. Both have great reviews and I am stuck. I've have experience with both companies, both treated me well with their good solid products.
Their prices are about the same.
I just need some inputs.

Why a QX6700? You will get a B3 stepping chip. Might as well save like $500 and get a Q6600.
Anyway IP35 Pro is better, however if you are going to pay big bucks might as well get the best aka Asus P5K Premium.

I agree on the CPU. The Q6600 provides more than enough coverage for anything in existence today...4 cores at 2.4ghz. And worse yet, you can overclock it for ultimate overkill. Definitely not much of an upgrade past the Q6600 for performance anyway. I'd consider just going for a monitor upgrade instad or some extra candy in grahpics maybe.
I have Crucial RAM...it's pretty ;)
I have Gigabyte P35 board that I really like. MSI I hear a lot about as well. Based on brand, I know more about MSI, so I'd pick them...but not sure if that's a good reason. What are the price differences and key feature differences if any? And then are those feature differences relevant to you specifically?
X38 is due out in a few weeks....it sounds like a lot of effort to set up a new motherboard and then undo it in 3 weeks. Maybe you're best just waiting a bit and buying the "best deals" you can find in the meantime for the other parts. I would have went for the X38 but I decided SLI wasn't worth waiting for (if it does in fact have SLI as rumored).

hmmmm.....maybe you guys are right.
I guess I can wait for the X38 motherboard when it comes out in a few weeks.
I didn't know they were knocking on the door.
I didn't pay $900+ for the QX6700. I only paid 500 for it. I got it off of ebay. I've bought computer parts from ebay before and none have failed me. The guy has a 100% rating so I gave it a shot.

I'd say stick with the abit. Some of the reviews of the MSI weren't glowing. The weird roller-coaster heatsinks don't make up for some weird performance anomalies and overclocking isn't as good as the abit, Gigabyte or ASUS P35s.
As for X38, I've heard mid October launch dates, so you may be waiting a while for that yet.
Even for $500, the QX6700 isn't worth it, unless you have to have the unlocked multi. A G0 Q6600 will overclock just as well, if not better for almost half what you paid.

I'll try to get my hands on a Q6600 then, I heard that the G0 stepping ones are hard to find though. :/
I've decided to get the Abit then, thanks for the help guys.
lol, I've probably made some not so wise decisions on this build. Not the usual me.

If you play your cards right, you might be able to flip the QX6700 for a small gain on Ebay ;) I mean, retail value is higher...why not? I agree Ebay is a great place to check for CPU deals. I looked there when I considered the Extreme CPUs, but I realized that paying the huge price difference between the Q6600 and the Extremes wasn't worth it, especially if I don't want to overclock right now. And even then, I can overclock when I want to.
I think most of the Q6600s shipping now are G0. I got one off of Newegg without even requesting it. It ends in SL9UM in the product ID so I know it's a G0.
I don't think the X38s are that far off. I heard September release from several sites I've read. I also saw October in another one too...so yea you're taking a chance.
Basically if you want SLI, you should wait and hope :) The P35 is Crossifre capable though. And the P35 already supports the new Penryns coming out in the winter as well as DDR3.

I don't know...I read that both were in different places but nothing I'd call a reliable source.
I don't really mind because I probably won't overclock anyway. My CPU meter shows this thing never even nearing the 50% mark so far where my old CPU would be at 100% on occasion.

Re: MSI P35 Platinum vs ABIT IP35 Pro
I'd say the ABIT is better. Also, let me know how things go if you decide to get the QX6700. I just installed my Q6600 G0 2 days ago on my watercooling and it is a beast! I'm running a stable 3.6Ghz right now, but as the link in my sig proves - it can get up to 4Ghz. It DOES generate a lot of heat tho - so make sure you're ready for that in a Quad. I got mine from Tankguy's . Cost me $295 plus shipping. Also don't forget that if you plan on overclocking a decent amount you will need a good northbridge cooler and possibly MOSFET coolers as well.
