Re: laptop memory upgrade
Well, brands do matter because quality varies. Some have poor QC and there are others who just use generic memory and sometimes might be of poor quality. Performance wise most laptop memory of the same speed offer similar performance without too much variations. Choosing the right brand also ensures better compatibility as well since they are better tested.
Crucial, Kingston, OCZ, Corsair are the most recommended brands.

Re: laptop memory upgrade
Most memory modules are manufactured by OEM companies from Taiwan or Korea, and rebranded by the so called brand names. This being said, the brand name memory have gone through stricter quality control. They usually are more reliable and have higher quality than generic ones. They also have better warranties.
Crucial manufacture and sell their own modules. Kingston, OCZ and Corsair are excellent brands. Most if not all 3 offer lifetime warranty. They also have a value select line. I would pick their value select line over generic ones.
2nd tier would be Samsung (an OEM manufacturer), Apacer, Transcend and PQI.

if you say that the only difference in in reliability and there is no difference in other performance with the same speed memory so i still have to prefer the Kingston over the Samsung?
or i didn't understand you well?
actually i read good things in some benchmark they made on toms hardware about some other model of Samsung ddr

Re: laptop memory upgrade
Among the 3, Samsung seems to be the best value and probably Kingston is better in terms of quality. PDP seems to be a generic manufacturer, never heard of them before.
Samsung can be reliable, it more to do with luck. I mean many people who buy Samsung memory might be happy but the chances of getting bad memory is higher with Samsung than with Kingston. So, its not like all Samsung memory will be bad.
Compared to desktop memory(which toms did the review on), in which you will find variations, laptop memories generally do not vary much. There will be small variations but nothing in the magnitude to what you will find in the desktop world.
Manufacturers usually will differentiate their generic line by terming it as "Value memory" or some such variations. Kingston and most major manufacturers have their own value brand which they sell cheaper than their regular versions. If a manufacturer is unknown like PDP systems, it is more likely that they are using generic memory or might not have the quality control standards.
I hope that kinda cleared some of your questions. Post if you need more clarifications.

Re: laptop memory upgrade
thank you again for spending your time ,otherwise i don't know really how to decide
i think i`ll go for the kingston(after checking the warranty issue) i can afford the difference and we had to much problems with our laptop recently-toshiba p-25 s607-(replaced hard drive ,and 3 times! dvd/cd drive) so i want some quiet time now,
so my direction is to buy the best i can, the only reason i wasn't sure is that the salesman in my country who offered me the samsung told me they are even better then the kingston(of course i think they don`t sell the kingston)and that kingston buying chips for their memory from samsung
so the last comment from you to make my decision final is do you sure 100% that the kingston is better then the
samsung in terms of quality and reliability,
by the way the meaning of generic is something regular with no special quality, or something else?

with the impresive results for samsung it`s a pc memory and not relevant to my issue? Irrelavent since they are trying to test the overclocking abilities of the RAM. They are pretty similar at stock speeds. These are very different from laptop memory. Laptop memory is much smaller and have totally different number of pins. If you do notice, they bought 2 similar Samsung sticks and one of them performed better than the other. Indicating that even though they are equivalent when running at stock speeds, the real capabilities of the memory are different.
