8800 GTX on a 22" lcd?

Question:
8800 GTX on a 22" lcd?
Hey guys
Does anyone have a 8800 GTX with a 22" monitor 1680x1050? does the monitor do that card justice? :|
I was originally planning on getting a notebook but i realized the cost of getting the notebook i wanted would be about the same as getting a better configured desktop so i chose the latter...
Im planning on getting the 8800 GTX with a Samsung SyncMaster 225BW and i'm not really sure what to expect. If anyone has the same setup, please post opinions :D

Re: 8800 GTX on a 22" lcd?
The 8800GTX is an incredible gaming card that can play basically any game that currently exists at 2560x1600 at the highest settings. If you're going to spend so much on your graphics card, you might as well jack up the LCD to the next level too. Consider spending a bit more to go a step up in resolution, to the Dell 2407WFP (24") for example, which runs at 1920x1200 resolution. If you're really loaded, you could go right up to the Dell 3007WFP (30," and 2560x1600 I believe) which would truly be the match for the 8800 GTX although it will set you back a lot of $ (I'm not even sure the exact amount but I know it's at least $1000)
Honestly I think the 8800GTX is a bit of a waste of money. As far as performance per dollar goes, you might as well go with the 8800 GTS which is $250 cheaper but has similar levels of performance, and certainly blows any of the DX9 cards out of the water. Unless you need 2560x1600 output I hardly see the point of the GTX except for novelty and if you're rolling in dough. Both cards will be outdated in 2 years anyway.
When configging your system, you have to remember you have to keep all your components at similar levels of performance. For example, as you might have guessed, there's no point having a 8800GTX that can run any game at 2560x1600 at full settings when you only have a 1680x1050 LCD which most DX9 cards could run just fine. Also, Tom's Hardware just posted an article showing that the 8800GTX/GTS are so powerful that in many games it is actually the CPU that is the limiting factor. So if you get a 8800GTX you should probably be going after a Core 2 X6800 Extreme or something similar otherwise the CPU is going to be holding you back.
Basically what I'm saying is that spending all that money on a 8800GTX will be a waste unless you build the whole system that can take advantage of its power, and right now that system is probably at least $3000 or $4000 to build depending on your choices. Balance your system properly and you will get your money's worth. I would recommend starting at Ars System Guides.

Ah, yea i looked over some GTX and GTS reviews where they scaled the CPU (http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/391/23/) and i see your point now.
Originally i was planning on getting a E6600 and OC'ing it to about 2.8Ghz or more. Looking at benchmarks for 1600x1200 resolutions the GTS should be more than enough for that resolution with the E6600.
So i guess the question is whether or not 1600x1200 will look good on a 22" monitor. The 1900x1200 ish resolution screens are double in price and thats where ill draw the line for screens :D Anyone use a 22" lcd with a 8800 GTS or 7900 series card??

I do not have 8800 but I do have 225BW with 9800 Pro.
I don't see why that card wouldn't work.
This LCD is very pretty and elegant, especially moving from 17 inch to 22 inch. I got this LCD for 399 CND, so so so so so sooooooooooo happy!

I run my 8800 gtx on this system and i love it!
E6600 not overclocked
8800 GTX 768 Overclocked only a little bit 599/920
2 gigs ram
24" Samsung 244T running at 1920 X 1200
3Dmark 06 = 10111
3dmark 05 = 14888
All games run at 1920 X 1200 everything maxed...smooth as silk. I am curently playing Dark Messiah and NWN 2.
Its a blast...good for current games and up coming games...I expect it will be top end for a good year or 2.

Why not just get a monitor with the highest contrast possible?
Then it looks good instead of just being big :-P

Then it looks good instead of just being big :-P Ah, i like samsung monitors and the 22" 1600x1200 monitor i want is about $450 while the 24" 1900x1200 is $1700  i havent really searched around for 1900x1200 monitors though, the average price i saw was usually over 1000 so thats out of the budget for now.
