A few questions about compatability and the build.

Question:
A few questions about compatability and the build.
Im planning on building a desktop when i get back form Afghan in a month or so. I'm on a slight budget of about 1500$ give or take a hundred. Im thinking about getting a
Lian li case
seagata barracuda 7200 320sata hd
antec tru power 650w
corsair xms2 1gb
evga 8800 gts
EVGA nvidia 680i mobo
and im trying to descide what proc to get i was looking at just a single core and holding off on getting something nicer because i don't want to spend twice as much later. but i was wonder the compatability of the celeron D 352and the evga nvidia 680i sli. Also i was looking at the conroe e6300 which is aboutr 180$ compared to the celeron at 60$. Please if someone could give me suggestions andhelp answer the compatability question tnx

Re: A few questions about compatability and the build.
I can't imagine putting together a machine fro $1500 and putting in a Celeron.

Re: A few questions about compatability and the build.
Combining a Celeron with a 8800GTS really does not make sense. It's combining something weak and something very powerful... And the 8800GTS would not perform nearly as well with a Celeron as with a Core 2 Duo. If I were you, I'd just go with the E6300. It's a fine CPU and overclocks very well if you need more power. Either do that or hold off until the cheaper quad core CPU's are released. I would also recommend 2GB's of RAM if possible. Now does your $1500 include a screen, keyboard, mouse and speakers? Do you allready have these?

Put in a nice Core 2 CPU and you sill have yourself a stellar machine!

Yes i still have a little time decide what my plan is considering i have a few months left over here. Thanks for the advice i know the celeron would severly bottleneck the gpu but i didn't want to spend on the 6300 and then the prices start dropping once amd releases there quad cores. I currently have a mouse and keyboard but no monitor. All the components minus the proc is 1200$ and if i add the 6300 which is about 180 and a descent 19CRT which should run no more than a couple hundred i should be where i want to be. All i can hope is prices to drop then i could drop another 150 on another gig of ram.

Re: A few questions about compatability and the build.
If you don't want prices to start dropping then don't buy a computer.
Really. That is a self-defeating attitude. A month after you've bought your computer, some of the components *will* be outperformed by something that costs 50% less. That's just how it is.
However, *if* you really insist on taking that into consideration, then you should buy a good CPU and the cheapest GPU you can find instead. GPU's drop in price (and increase performance) much faster than CPU's.
But I'd say buy everything at once, and enjoy it while it lasts.
With your original plan, you'll start out with a cripple, slow computer. And when a better CPU comes out, you upgrade that, and now everything else in your computer is starting to show its age. So you'll first spend some months with a slow computer. And then you'll get a *decent* computer. And overall, you'll have spent more money than if you'd just bought everything at once (because you ended up buying two CPU's).
Alternatively, you could buy what you want now, and have an actual *fast* computer for a while.

Oh I dunno, Celerons are supposed to be super overclockable on stock cooling!

Re: A few questions about compatability and the build.
thats what im looking at plus i can't buy anything now because im defending our country since last feb 06 - feb 07. So in that matter i do have time. My bank account isn't really great but i have enough to put together a descent system. I know im going to being overclocking with a zale air cooler. Unfortunatly i am on a budget and i would just get the extreme edition but uncle sam doesn't pay much. I heard the celeron can overclock nice and for 60 dollars is a good deal.
Just need to get the base of a system together and build onto it. The proc will hinder the graphics but i can handle lowering resolutions until i get enough for one of those nice conroes. Just and idea and i have to find out if all pentiums compatable with the evga 680i sli.Any one know?

if you're on a budget, don't get the lian-li case. those things are $250-500 usually... most cases are less than $150! The CoolerMaster Praetorian (sp?) is a nice stylish aluminum case that can be had for much less than a lian-li, for example.

Re: A few questions about compatability and the build.
Another thing I'd consider is a cheaper motherboard. The EVGA nvidia 680i is nice but expensive. I think I'd lean towards an Asus or Gigabyte in the $100-$150 range. The gigabyte ds3 is a great mobo and has some great overclocking features. It only supports one GPU though, but really if you have no intention in upgrading to dual GPU's, because you really only get another 1/2 the performance gain over a single card. Then go with a cheaper non-SLI board.
Here is something to look at:

Then you have ~$300 for a Case, screen, and a DVD burner.
