Should I download Windows SP2

Question:
Should I download Windows SP2
Hello all,
I'm pretty much a beginner  when it comes to most stuff computer-related, but I'm trying my best to pick up and learn from this forum.
I just bought a new HP Pavilion DV8308TX with Windows XP Media Centre. Should I still download Windows Service Pack 2, or is that unnecessary since it is (presumably) the latest version of the operating system?
Thanks,
Erle

Re: Should I download Windows SP2
If you right click on My Computer and select properties, it will say what version of the OS you're running. It should say "Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2005 Service Pack 2" or something to that effect. In any case, you should still go to Windows Update and get all the patches that have come out since the OS was installed.

I would get all the high priority updates you can. Anytime MS puts out a security patch you know its because MANY others have been stung.

If you have windows media center 2005 then you do not need to install service pack two because it is already installed.

one question about WMC...is it just like Home or Pro? because my friends say dofferently...
also, can you access the multimedia functions without the "remote" (by media functions i mean the organizing and stuff, not the T.V. tuner)

Re: Should I download Windows SP2
Everything can be accessed using the mouse. The actual media center portion is only a program integrated into the existing XP OS. It cannot access domains, but has the media center program built in and the Royale theme.

Re: Should I download Windows SP2
Crippled is not really a good word to use. MCE lacks the ability to log onto a active directory domain. That's the main difference, and an option that home users don't need anyway.
